I can imagine there isn't a fixed answer to this but what sort of ball park cost would I be looking at for riding to a European race as wouldn't know where to start. Camping or hotel(only somewhere to sleep) so doesn't have to be great, do you make a week of it or go just for a long weekend? Cheers
We've just done Assen. Costs each were - return tunnel £69, 2 x nights hotel £95, race ticket £80, fuel £75, spending money for food etc £100. We pick fairly decent hotels and don't skimp in food so you could save by camping or budget hotels and riding a bit slower lol
two weeks to get to / from Mugello via the Alps , cheapish hotels , reckon it was about £1,200 all in - was a few years back mind
Budget for €100 per day travel expenses at least. Plus ferry costs, and ticket costs. Likely on the road expenses: Fuel - 350 miles per day @ 1.5 euros per litre = €67 per day Hotel/Motel = €50 Food/drink = €20 You may ride less mileage per day, and use less fuel, and you may find cheaper accommodation. But likely to be more rather than less for accommodation. By going to a MotoGP race you are committing yourself to being in a certain place at a certain time, and so you loose some flexibility with that. Adding camping to the equation can reduce costs hugely. Last year on the way to Assen I stayed in two Municipal Campsites that were €3.50 per night !! - However the campsite in Holland near Assen was closer to €20 per night. There are two ways of doing it, and I have done both: Take two weeks and include the race as part of the two weeks holiday - different route there, different route back. Bit more leisurely, nice roads. Can work out cheaper daily expense as you can stay on campsites. Long weekend - dash there and dash back - quickest route, no faffing with campsites. Full days in the saddle probably on motorway all the time. Cut costs just by being away for fewer nights. Budget €100-160 per day would cover it nicely. Note about choice of country: Spain has very cheap Hostales - like hotels. And even their Hotels seem cheap. So not worth camping as rooms for the night are good and cheap. Holland also has good value B&Bs So camping is more important if you plan to be away longer, as it reduces costs (and is actually enjoyable if not in a rush). Camping not so important if away for a short trip, or if you are going to Spain. €160 per day is probably enough to cover all day in the saddle and stay in a nice IBIS type Hotel at the end of the day. Heaven ! €120 per day to spend all day in the saddle and stay in a cheaper hotel. €90 per day to spend all day in the saddle and stay on a campsite €15 per day to spend all day on a Municipal campsite, not going anywhere, doing nothing, eating bread and cheese. I hope the breaking down of costs into daily expense will help. Quick edit: Toll Road charges can be €20 per day also in France
