Just seen a post on fb from local police force saying they have got a new noise measuring device for cars and bikes that i presume they will ticket you for.
It got me thinking what db limit the uk has and what my akrapovic slip on on my 2015 cbr1000rr would be.

There’s no noise limit as a value in the mot - it’s just what the tester considers to be reasonably equivalent to similar cc bikes. So would the police be looking at a similar scenario for what they consider reasonable o_O

About time to be honest. I live at the foot of the Snake Pass. The number of obnoxiously loud dick heads is seriously irritating.

Surely H.D.s are classed as agricultral vehicles and as such can display black and white/silver plates, run open pipes and deposit muck on the public highway without fear of the law. No offence intended.

No set limit for the road. Also how could a measurement stand up in court with background noises etc affecting the reading. They would need to measure in a sound insulated booth, a weighted sound, calibrated sound level meter.

Are you an electric bike rider then ;):D or just want everyone else to be . Biking is loud, loud is biking. We'll until the police catch us anyway, by the sound of it, you know the UK had become a boring place when bikers moan about noise

Think about it for a minute. There's places in Europe where bikes are being banned because of noise. It'll come here too if we aren't careful. It's about respecting people and the communities they live in. Loud pipes give the anti bike lobby just another stick to beat us with. That just seems bloody stupid to me.

In the UK, the noise limit for a motorbike is set at 80dB, with an extra 6dB added to account for mechanical noise and is set down under The Motorcycle Cycle Noise Act 1987.

80dB has been the limit since I first went on Traffic in the late 70's, but it was never really enforced because until quite recently the Police never had an accurate or calibrated means of testing.

    That has now changed.

Bear in mind that the bike can also be seized

    Hope that helps?

I agree. My girlfriend lives by a road that leads (eventually) to Matlock and some of the bikes that go by make a ridiculous din and go at least 60 in the 30 zone, which is not good PR for the rest of us more considerate bikers.

Having said that, the worst offenders of all seem to be the Merc AMG, Range Rover SVR, Golf R and other chav cars that blip, spit and fart their way along at similarly antisocial speeds through the village at all times of day and night…

Maybe it’s time to p/x my fireblade for a deauville and a comfy cardigan…

My Honda petrol lawnmower has a sticker on it that says 96db, and my electric lawn rake says 104db! Go figure that out. My Fireblade passes the 102db static and 89db drive by at a track day with Akra can without baffle. My old VFR is noisy as hell but everyone knows V4s are excempt from noise regulations :p
