so, 2009 blade, 2700miles on the clock, mechanically standard. Engine temp always between 79-82 degrees in normal riding, rising quickly at standstill until the fans cut in and control it. So fitted an Akrapovic slip on, with the valve and cat, took it out for a ride and at 40-50 mph the engine temp was sitting between 93 and 105 degrees, far hotter than it has ever been, for about 20 miles. Arrived at my destination, and checked the obvious, everything okay. For the last five miles before I got to where I was going, the temperature began to fall slightly. On the way home, the temp was far more stable, sitting between 80-85 degrees. What's all this about then? Ecu "learning" the new exhaust perhaps?
Don't know if what I was told is true or a load of bull but I was told that if you start the bike, don't touch the throttle and just let it idle for around 15 minutes the ecu will self learn that there has been a change in fuelling and update or self map itself. I have heard of this before but did not know if the Honda did it ??
thats why smoking is GOOD. fire the bike up, fire a tab up, smoke it, don the lid n gloves and everything is ready to go.
To reset ECU,disconnect battery for 10 mins, start bike but don't touch throttle, let idle until fans cut in then switch off. Don't know exactly how much this improves thing as its obviously not as good as getting a Power Commander.
