Yesterday, I was invited to attend and observe the motorcycle safety performance day at Castle Combe circuit, and I have to say I was really impressed with the quality of instruction, content and emphasis on enjoyment. The day costs £99 (which I appreciate is probably more expensive than a Bikesafe day), and it does not include any road riding. However, the day was split into various sections, including - Machine handling on the track Observation Planning Braking and Avoidance Skill on the Track Vehicle Maintenance Smart Riding There is also a theory session explaining accident or crash causation which even I found interesting, and is very interactive in that course members are invited to give their reasons and thoughts as to how certain crashes occurred. There are several track sessions, the last part of the day being free time to go out and enjoy the track. Courses are run as and when there are sufficient numbers (yesterday there were 30 people divided into 3 groups) Highly recommended, and if you would like to consider this day as an alternative to Bikesafe, then further info can be found at Castle Combe Circuit - Track Days - Events - Motorcycle Safety Days
I second that... did the course a few years back, and found it very informative and good fun. The instructors are not pretentious or sanctimonious in any way, they just want to make you safer. Thoroughly recommended!
And for those in the north - Cheshire Bikerdown are doing a track session and safety course at Oulton Park on 2nd Sept. - £50 Cheshire Fire & Rescue Ride Skills Day - Tuesday 2 Sep 2014
If they are like the other 1 off bike safe day they did a few months ago it will be 105db but bare in mind that may sound good like other circuits but they test static in a large shed !!!! 3/4 revs not 5-6k and at at 3/4 of a meter not a meter. why the 08-11 blades are on the list of the bikes that won't get on track even with a standard can
They are a bit more human about it, as its not a full-blown trackday... they let my mate on with his 1098S with Termi pipes, and that thing was LOUD. One of the instructors turned up with his own race-prepped 748 and that thing was insanely loud... If in doubt, give them a ring and ask... but they do seem a bit more lenient as its all in the name of safety!
Being a track day virgin, as well as liking the idea of some outside wisdom on what I do right and what I do wrong. Ive booked myself on this Kent Fire & Rescue Ride Skills Day - Monday 11 Aug 2014 Seems a great price for a full day and 2x 20min track sessions....and even if you look on the bleak side at least emergency services are there already! Do post on here if your attending too, be good to meet a forum dweller!
mine was 109 and they let me on another guy on the course had a racefit that came in at 119 they didn't let him on
seems I would be ok then. but I have no need to be told how to ride on track. as i'm happy trying my best to hang off lol
OOOHHHH you've ended up tempting me towards that link and now I've gone and looked at maps for where these tracks are and and... I think I might be going to the Bedford session next Friday. Anyone else in? General Bike Track Day - Friday 25 Jul 2014
