Visited Europes largest surviving WW1 aerodrome today at Stow Maries in Essex (10 minutes from South Woodham Ferriers)
What a brilliant and virtually unknown museum. The aerodrome was established in 1916 as a base for B Flight 37 (Home defence) Squadron RFC
The aerodrome contains 24 of the original buildings many have been and continue to be restored and have grade 2 listing.
The aerodrome is staffed by very friendly and knowledgeable staff most of whom are volunteers (free tours at various times)
This site needs revenue to fund the continuing restoration works.
Admission was and £8 worth every penny for this unique site.
Anyone who has an interest in WW1/aviation should certainly pay a visit.
