Has anyone had any problems with front fork seals on 09 non abs blade? Just left my bike in for a service thinking just an oil change, mate who is doing the service rang last night to say front left handside is leaking down the fork and is close to going on the breaks. There is 4000 miles on the bike and has never been wheelied
I have an 05 blade that pops seals for fun. Thought it was down to wheelies but when I stopped the seals continued to fail. It cost me £45 to have it fixed each time at a local bike shop and £85 at Kais Suspension near Wigan for both seals to be done at the same time. (few years ago mind) Had one go on me in Spain and an Aprillia garage charged me £150 just for one side! Robbin' Bastids! When I had it done at Kais he assured me the forks were 100% but they still continued to fail. Never did find out the reason why though. I also have an 08 model and despite a few botched wheelies and some cavernous potholes they seem to be holding up quite well with 14,000 miles on the clock. Yours could just be a faulty seal, I wouldn't worry to much about it unless it happens again.
Never seen that before with a bike with such low mileage. Any pitting on the stantions ? Genuine seals being used ?
Took my 2003 blade in for an MOT the other week. Thought for sure he was gonna fail it on the fork seals as more or less cracked the full circumfrence but because they arent leaking it was ok.
The cracked seal is prob just the dust cover the oil seal is under that, you can buy a tool on eBay now basically a plastic scraper that you insert into the seal and wipe round to remove small deposits of dirt etc, I've done this for years with a small pick but yet again miss the boat with the gimmick cleaning card they now sell and I remain poor....lol I hate to say that the card properly works! But I've never used one but have often fixed minor fork leaks with the same technique, however as you have lost oil and your ridding a superbike and not a little mx bike your oil levels are important so they need to be checked properly! Seals leak for many reasons and I know some tricks to cure persistant oem forks and seals from leaking as they sometimes do, with such a low mile bike I'd just get them done under warrantee ?? and if they leak again demand a new pair of forks! Oh and one other thing about that MOT I find they don't fail leaking forks, buggered head race bearings, bald tyres, no lights etc etc, but DO fail number plate too small, no rear reflector or exhaust a little loud.......lol
Arthur that depends where you go for your MOT. I've had plenty sail through with race systems, small plates and even last year with no reflector, it was mentioned but nothing more.
I know mate, I get them to take to MOT that have failed for pethetic reasons yet have major faults! I do not have a problem with MOTs mate
MOT,s are shit end of! cant fail a leaking shocker or fork unless insurficent damping or contamanation of brakes what a load of shit if its leaking its fooked and needs changing!! O excuse the spelling i am shit and been on the pop!
