Recently bought a rr9 and I can here a tick from front sprocket area when rolling on or off throttle at low rpm in any gear. It feels like free play in transmission. Is this normal? I have been advised to fit a new chain.

check your chain tension, but there will always be a little play around the sprockets/chain.

put you bike on a rear stand if you have one,put in gear (not running) and move the rear wheel till it engages, then give your sprocket a wobble, there willbe someisde play, maybe thats what you can hear.

When I swapped to my 15T front sprocket I left the cover off cos I liked the look. The sprocket was torqued up properly as scooby said and chain tension was spot on, all lubed etc. When I took the bike out I could hear the front sprocket quite easily, put the cover on and the noise went away. So you do get running noise, just the mechanics of the bike I guess?

i think you will find it is the slipper clutch making that noise... as far as i am aware they all do it.

no dont think so. unless your running a dry clutch like the ducrappi' other than that the slipper is no diufferent to a standard clutch, noise wise.

The only noise the slipper clutch makes is that tiny click you sometimes get at the lever when changing down (more of a sensation than a noise though).

By the sounds of it I have nothing to worry about. Just need to get used to it. Its just I never heard it on previous R1.

Is 7000 miles to soon to be thinking of new chain and sprockets?
