Hi guys! Im about to replace my sprockets on my CBR1000RR 2008. Havent done it before and looking though videos on youtube to prepair myself =) I found one thing interesting and left me with this question. The OEM sprocket has this rubber thing on the backside of it. I hear it reduce noise. When i look at my new Driven sprocket theres nothing. Normal i hear as well. BUT! Wouldnt there become a spacing difference when putting in a new sprocket with no rubber on the back compaired to OEM? Just saw a video where he talks about how important it is that the new sprocket has the same spacing? Anyone knows anything about this?
Try fitting it and putting the chain on. Get backwheel off the ground and spin it to see what position front sprocket ends up in. Mark gearshaft at front of sprocket. Try pushing sprocket towards engine, mark gearshaft where it stops. Compare difference in marks to thickness of rubber spacer. If it's the same, you need a spacer!!!
Thanx! But dont you mean that if they aintthe same, get a spacer? In that case ill give it a go tomorrow =)
No mate, if the difference between the two marks is the same as the thickness of the spacer, then you do need a spacer. If you fit the new sprocket and it touches the spacer that comes out of the engine, already on the gearshaft, then you don't need a rubber spacer.
You wont need a spacer all aftermarket ones come solid bang it on it will be fine of course if its for your bike
Just put them both on a flat surface you will soon see if they are out, never known any to need spacers unless its the wrong sproket or one from another model being used to get an odd gear ratio, the Cush drive OEM sprockets cost 50+ last time I looked and reduce vibration as you say, you could also argue they reduce snatch on the gear box and final drive. 520 kits DO often have off set issues as the chain is so much smaller but no one ever cares.....that's racers for you.....lol
Thanx =) Well i went with 530 16/43, like the look and dont need the reduced weight since the 1000RR is my first "real" bike lol. Was riding a SV650 this summer, thats pretty much all my experience Lots of training on track tho! Got a great deal on Driven sprockets and EK chain thats why i went for it.. also wanted black sprockets ^^ I was acually thinking about using OEM front sprocket cos of the reduced noise.. might not be a bad idea after all. Nice to hear that spacing should be correct when using aftermarket brands.. makes sense ^^
Ive never noticed a difference (cush drive or steel) from one to the other tbh, Id always fit new all round as well unless the others are in ace condition.
