My rear metzeler rennsport has about 2k miles left on it but my front rennsport needed replacing. I decided to purchase a part worn front metzeler rennsport to match the rear tyre, ride it around for another 2k miles then replace the pair with something different.

Had the part worn fitted on the front by my mechanic and at approx 110mph (private road) I'm getting front wheel wobble. my mechs replaced NEW tyres for me before and I've never experienced and issues.

Apart from the wheel may need re-balancing again is there anything else that could be causing this front wheel wobble? Could the tyre be defective and causing this despite being correctly balanced? Bike rode straight and true prior to the part worn being fitted.

Yes, the spindle could be loose or the tyre may not be seated correctly. Lift the front and spin the wheel, look for distortion in the bead on both sides. Also rock the wheel top to bottom and front to back as if you were checking the bearings, any movement means that the wheel isnt on correctly

    Thanks for the reply

I've just checked everything that you mentioned and everything seems to be as it should be. No distortion on the bead/tyre surface or wheel and no movement in the hub/bearing. There is very slight resistance from the brake pads when spinning the wheel but I guess that's normal.

I reckon it must be the tyre not balanced correctly?

Just check that the resistance from the brake discs is even. Next stop is wheel balancing. You may even be able to ceck this by spinning the wheel with the calipers removed to see it it keeps stopping in the same position.

Surely this is down to the tyre being a part worn?
What state is the tyre in, exactly?

It's got about 1.5to 2mm tread left and appears in good condition. The rear is getting pretty low now so I've just ordered up a new pair of Avon st2 storms.
