What does it actually mean when light comes on and it flashes 0.0 gallons on the dash? Trying to work out how many miles I can safely do on reserve to and from work ... I commute to Liverpool daily from Bolton so need to figure this out as I'm filling up every two days!
Well after digging the manual out it seems it is amount of fuel used since fuel light come on... Useful - NOT! Why couldn't they just use miles done since light like everyone else
It kind of IS useful - you just have to get your head round it..... If you fill / brim tank it will count UP from 0.0 to about 0.7 (that's part of a gallon used) but work on 0.5 to be really safe till you master it. So when the fuel light pops on press a button to get your average MPG, halve it and that is your range on reserve. You need to make sure you re-set the trip / computer with each fill - you should be able to get 160 - 170 to a tank on a regular basis on that commute When you fill up remember the tank takes 17 litres, so deduct how many litres you put in to work out what was left in the tank Hope that helps - you can also press a button to see how many gallons used since you filled up, then deduct that from 3.5 to see how many left and you can get your range
You can turn this feature off so that when your reserve light comes on it just shows the miles instead of going to flashing zero. Dont know if that would be better for you?
Thank you - that's very helpful. Like you say it's getting your head round it. It's averaging 46-47mpg on the commute (calculated using a fuel app on phone) ... The onboard over reads a little as it reckons I'm doing 49-50mpg ... If can get 160-170 between fills ups I'd be very happy as at present filling up as soon as light comes on due to lack of knowledge of the reserve.
As in it counts the miles done since light come on? That is how my R1 used to do it ... Although I might try the Honda way first as now I know it shows fuel used since light and an estimation of miles I can do on reserve that should be fine now ... Will try it out tomorrow as light about to pop on
Yes unfortunately I chose to ignore the 0.7 flashing on my dash and took my mileage covered since last fill up as gospel. Normally easily manage 150M between fill ups with 0.6 on the reserve. Had 140 on the trip and 0.7 on the reserve on the way back on the M4 from work last friday. Bike died shortly after the reserve counter is actually quite accurate
Also depends on how hard you cane bike. I tend to get 120 to a tank but I don't hang about due for a fine and points soon such it is,maybe a ban well won't have to drive poxy trucks for a while
Too and from work I have little choice to take it easy ... As it's all motorway work in heavy traffic ... So cruising speed is 40-80mph all way ... But fun rides I'm not too bothered
Unfortunately it just shows the miles on the trip , you then have to add on another 20/25 miles on your clock till you fill her up again, but like u say Alblades way seems good, just use I guess. Nothing worse than running out of fuel.
The clock is over reading the mpg because your speedo mph is over reading, your speedo is probably reading 3-4mph over what your actual speed is, so clock says 40 your really doing 36 etc am guessing you have a 50 profile tyre? Am running 55 profile and have test via gp that my speedo is now running true. The bad news is if you've ridden 4000 miles you've actually only done 3600, speedo healer is the way forward or get a 55 profile and enjoy the ride
The bike is completely standard so yes it is on the 50 profile rear tyre ... I will change it to 55 when the tyres need changing. It's only done 4000 miles from new.
Worth checking the speed difference even phone gps speedo app are pretty accurate, otherwise unnecessary extra miles being put on the bike
I was under the impression that when the light came on it started counting on the dash from zero in litres, and 3.75 litres was what was left when the light came on ?
Agreed but given all bikes are out by similar percentages from new it's not a big deal. A 55 series tyre will do me fine and improve the handling as well. Do newer blades use 55's now btw?
