Gear indicator - Do I really need one?

    Just a quick question really.
    Been toying with the idea of adding a Gear Indicator to my RR5, but am faced with the hassle of routing the cable to the diagnostic port while keeping it looking tidy, therefore should I bother?

    Convince me one way or the other guys.
    Should I splash the cash and faff around with cable ties and wiring, or should I just save myself the time & money?

    A decent one just plugs into back of clocks, I think the are worth it even if to just stop you trying to select 7th :)

    I don't really see the point in it if I am honest.
    It's like the wee arrow on your car dash telling you to change up or down.

    I used to think that for years, but finally got fed up of trying to kick up to 7th so fitted a GIpro the other weekend. So glad I did! You don't realise how useful it is until you have one!

    @OP: the wire can be run totally discreetly from the clocks next to the headstock, under the tank cover and into the battery compartment on an RR8-. Presume the RR5 will be similar?

    This is exactly what I'm trying to work out. The RR5 one plugs into the diagnostic port behind the L/H upper side fairing panel, but neatly getting the wire to there is a faff and that's what is making me question if there is really any need for one (other than for not looking for 7th, yes we all do it).

    My acumen just plugs into back of clock nowhere else so very tidy

    The diagnostic port that you plug into on the RR5 is just behind the upper left fairing, makes an easy and clean job...
    I think they are worth it

    Eh ??? most cars down here usually have gears marked on them ?? :D....... anyhow why has it taken Honda so long to put it on the dash...... such a simple item to plug in. ??

    Right, I've bitten the bullet and ordered an Acumen.
    Hopefully I won't scratch the fairing panel removing it and routing the wire isn't too bad.

    I was spoiled by the gixxer I had as it had a gear indicator and slipper clutch, both of which the RR7 doesn't. Does it affect me, nah!! I'm not gonna invest in a gear indicator and am just gonna ride the blade as Honda made it.

    You can fit it by just removing the screen mate, no need to take nose off

    I love mine and wouldn't be without it now! You know your always in the right gear for the conditions your riding too and they look pretty cool too! it's good call mate you won't regret it dude :D

    All those cockpit views of F1 cars show even those blokes have GIs. Gud enuf 4 them? Gud enuf 4 me. ;)

    No fixings AFAIK. It's a velcro/sticky pad job.
