Fell off bike yesterday . Long story short. When I picked bike up I could not get neutral . The only gear I could get was first. Anyway, when I got home I noticed the link rod did not seem right. I loosened it and fiddled with the rod that sticks out from the engine. I tightened it back up , but still unable to locate gears. I repeated the process, eventually I achieved liftoff.
My questions are; is the a common problem when the bike has been dropped and is there a special technique for putting the gear link rod back? Thanks

Hopefully not your problem but will mention it.

Check the amount of play on the splined spindle for the gearbox. If you have excessive play (left of bike to right of bike) gears won't engage when its pushed to the right. If its pulled out (to the left of the bike) you can change gears okay but will the spindle will move back to cause gear change problems. There is a clip (Tensioner) in the gearbox that can bend so the spindle is out of place.

    Hope that makes sense?

A link that might explain a bit more
