Along with a couple of mates, we have decided to do 1st Euro trip in June 2014, and Germany (Black Forest) coming out top of the list, also if time permits would want to do the Stelvio pass. We would have 5 nights/6 days. Would going on to do the Stelvio Pass, be too much to do, considering time available? Any advice appreciated. Cheers
Black Forest is great. B500 is excellent but busy in parts. Surrounding area is awesome. I'd do 2 big days there. 1st stop at the ring... if you want to stay for a day it's brilliant If not a good days ride - YouTube mcn guide to ring - loads of great biker places to stay. And surrounding roads brilliant. Heading down to Black Forest there is a great route I've used a few times, down to cochem, follow the river and then pick up the b48 (ssshhhh it's a secret biker paradise) and then to Baden Baden where the 500 starts. Think the stevio might be to much in Those days though mate as makes it a bit of trek home!!
Stelvio is a bit far mate, plus it isn't the best biking road, too slow, too many switchbacks...BUT, the scenery is fantastic. Add another 2 days and do the St Gotthard pass instead, or one of the many other ones. You'll be going on the B48 and B500 i presume? Now, they ARE fantastic roads!!!
Ok, Stelvio pass, too far to go in the time we have available. Been looking at various options, for the Black Forest, would it be worth using Baden Baden as a base for 2 nights, and exploring the roads in the area(b500 and b48), or just stay 1 night at Baden Baden and move on somewhere else for a night before returning home?
Baden Baden would be cool mate, we are doing the same before heading to Italy end of May. It's a lovely city too, very cultured and the nightlife is ace. You'll love it.
Baden Baden is great. Really lovely place. But it's right at the top of the Black Forest. Is personally stay further down on the b500.... Frudnstradt (or similar spelt) is nice as is Freiburg.... Tbh, there are 1000's of biker places to stay down there, it's ace!
Some great info, routes and roads here guys. If you get chance pop over to Heilbronn and visit the Neckarsulm Motorcycle Museum. I was there in October and it's a brilliant place to spend a few hours. Cracking Brattie stand outside too plus loads of cafe's. I really enjoy riding in Germany, cracking roads, great food and amazing beers. Happy days. Once you get to Cochem head over the tops to Bopard. it's a brilliant short cut and saves messing about in Koblenz mind there's a commercial estate full of Bike gear shops just on the outskirts. I agree with Si n Jimbo follow the Rhine all the way down to Baden Baden. If I can be of any assistance give me a shout. Lived there for 12 years back in the CBR1000F days. Always happy to help if I can. Cheers Raymondo
Got to agree with you there Jimbo awesome roads and if you just fancy a days pootle you can flip back up north at Friedenstat after a brew in the aptly names Cafe Pause
Here Ya go, I knew I had it somewhere Not a bad way of spending half a day, well OK a day taking in the sights aloft the Schwarzwaldhochstraße By EK I do like planning rides!
Devil is in the detail mate... Yup!! Done that loop awesome..... We stayed in seebach just off the 500, WHAT a way to start and finish a days ride off....
Top tip stay north of France so no tolls, drop down once over the German boarder. Or straight down past Reims if your non to bothered saves about an hour and a half straight there. Happy Planning Heres a handy Gaff to stay at in the Forest
