I have got a Gilles shift support for an 04-07 blade if anyone fancies it. I had it fitted to my CB1000R and it did indeed take out any play and seemed to stop any missed gears when I was revving the nakkers off it £35 posted
What dose it do and have you any pics? Im interested Is it for the same purpose as the 929 and 954 ones?
It supports the shift rod on a bearing after exiting the crankcase to remove any freeplay when changing gear
Id be up for this, Missed a few gears round donington. I didnt realise these bikes suffered with the same problem as the 929's and 954's. Looks like im too late on this on though. Should have sent a pm instead of replying to the post :-/
Had mine since 07 and is needed imo as when you change to rearsets you tend to get a good number of missed gears, NEVER had one since fitting the support and sell many to CB1000R owners too for the same reason. I was tempted to buy it for a spare......I am a SUCKER for spares...lol
I didnt actually realise the 1000rr's suffered with this problem. A few mates use the supports on 929's and 954's. Although i did have quite a few missed gears exiting the melbourne loop and going down the start finish straight at donny last year.
Not wishing to hijack your thread guys but how prevalent a problem is it for 954's. Ive never missed a gear yet. Is it something I should keep an eye on?
The flexing can cause missed gears, This in turn can cause premature failure of the gearbox meaning a full strip down to fix it. IMO well worth the money for the peace of mind.
Depending on the type of linkage used and what angle the shift rod runs to the gearbox shaft the problem can often be worse, its aftermarket rearsets that often bring the problem to light, if you still run the OEM rearsets I would not expect to see much of a problem but when you study the shaft as you shift you can see the flex and load on the gearbox selector shaft! The support is well made and well thought out with needle rollers to help dissipate the load and prevent flex giving a clean movement of the shaft....but you all know that....lol
Exactly Art ... I noticed the movement while setting up the VCR's and Gilles had just brought out the support so I grabbed one double quick
