Really want to get one of these especially for my next Europeon Trackday as i missed not having one in Jerez.Prices really do differ on them who uses them and what make.
Yeah it was hard to pick you out from the pit lane Do you know if no limits are going to do timing like focused event chrono days
no plans for chrono days james. jase what is you want exactly? a live timer,or something you can look at later? cant go wrong with the Aim solo, gives good data aswell as live timing/splits etc,but the software can be a bit tricky to fathom.£300 ish dont come up to often 2nd hand if you want a timer that gives you track data, lap times etc but only once you've d/loaded onto your laptop, then the qstarz BT-Q1000eX is all you need, very easy to use the software, and gives a god amount of data to help improve your riding.£100 ish can get about 1/2 price 2nd hand (i have both though )
Top notch stuff,, realiable and useful for some basic analysis (on the entry model, not the full data logging starlane stuff). And you can compare laptimes with other riders on stardome.com.. Not the cheapest laptimer though.
You could try a free android app called RaceChrono ,it does work very well when linked to a decent Bluetooth receiver ,Qstarz BT-Q818XT or similar £55 on amazon. All tracks UK and Europe are on it ,does split times and sorts all your best splits to show your potential best lap. Braking points and speed are also shown .It will work with the phone GPS but the refresh rate isn't fast enough for the track use.
but that means you have to buy the GPS receiver and want to take your phone out with you on track. used r/crono a lot,but the q/starzQ1000eX is a lot less hassle. seriously jase, cant go wrong with the aim solo.
yea thats the 1,you will need to add VAT to that to though. there is also the DL version that connects via your CAN/BUS plug on your loom and then logs all the data your ECU monitors.very trick if your into your data/telementry.think that goes for about 500 quid
I take it you can't use these at Track Days though as they always make a big deal at the morning meeting about 'Timing Devices' being banned and they aint insured (whatever that means) and any cunt (sorry 'valued customer'!) getting caught will be sent in their way! Why is it such a big deal?
tbh it's not the TDO,it's the circuit, that said i've never had an issue with my gps units,it's the beacons onthe pit wall they will take away. the reason behind is that if your timing it's classed as a form of racing/time trial which you/they aren't covered to do insurance wise, only riding for fun. jase,i've just sold some bits off my old old bike so am debating an upgrade,if your interested i'll let know by next week but might sell my AIM solo.(upgrading to the solo DL)
no does it fuck,i've just spent over 1k on trackdays/stuff and wont be riding for another 3 months!!!!
Im just about to fit my new HM dash which has inbuilt lap timer. Think its 699 ex VAT but the extra features you get with it are far in advance of a stand alone timer. It can plot your actual lines and give you 'ultimate lap' etc with sector info and a whole load more. I'll let you know how i get on... plus, it does look pretty nice too!
