I know there have been a couple of threads on tracking devices in the past.. However, technology moves on and I've been looking at some on eBay For example... Hidden Car Auto Motorbike Motorcycle Mini GSM Tracker A GPS Device Car Charger | eBay As I have read in previous posts, the off putting thing seemed to be the fact that older styles of trackers used a subscription service. But this one, and others I have been looking at, are stand-alone devices, and are, by the look of things, quite small and so quite easily hidden. Obviously, professional bike thieves are going to look for such a black box, but, as I have the dubious honour of living in a high bike theft area and regularly see scumbags on stolen bikes riding around, they don't bother looking for that kind of thing, as long as it runs and these are the more likely suspects to make off with the pride and joy. I would think a well hidden little box would be undiscovered long enough by even professionals to enable some kind of location to be gleaned and passed on the the police who can then not bother their arses to follow it up.. Ohh did I sound slightly bitter there.... But I digress...back to the subject I reckon for the current eBay prices they have to be worth a punt...there are some Chinese ones for £8..that a gallon of fuel or a packet of fags to you smokers.. Bang in a pre-pay sim card that are free and it's a little extra piece of mind..and maybe an extra couple of quid off the insurance..
Be interested to see if it works! You wouldn't get insurance discount as it would need Thatcham approval
Ahhh yes the old "Thatcham Approval"....wish I'd thought of that money making scam.. But it's more for personal peace of mind and the fact that I can try to guide the authorities to the bike if it ever went missing. Older bikes like mine are not such a target now for the pro's and so they wouldn't be far from home most part, like I said, local scummers who ride it then stash it in a garden somewhere.. I know because I had a Ninja that went missing a couple of years ago, it was ridden around the area for two weeks until one of the mongs rode past my house on it and I managed to knock him off balance enough that he lost control further round corner, though I didn't know this, the bike was found in a garden in the next street by me with other scumbags info. The police made a couple of arrests, I got the bike back but it was scrap by then...the scum who was on it ended up in hospital for a month with multiple injuries, unfortunately none of them fatal... One of the reasons I have little faith in the Police's interest or willingness to act on good information.. Just the past couple of days there has been a really tidy VFR750F being ragged around, yesterday they spent 10 minutes smashing off the exhausts in the middle of the road to make it louder... The old bill's response....."how do you know it's stolen ??...we're a little busy but will try to get someone round to have a look"....2pm on a Tuesday..busy eating lunch probably.. I just love paying council tax....no.. really...!!!
