found a track bike local(ish) to me, I've received a few pics from the owner, paintworks a bit rough but I'm really keen to go and have a looksee. Any advice on what I should be looking out for ? it has no v5 but all the no's are present and correct, I know it was a trackbike before the current owner had it he's done 12 trackdays on it with oil changes after every second day, I have all the mechanical knowhow of a donkey, how do I ensure I'm not going to buy a heap of trouble ? did the K4 have any issues ? Any advice on questions to ask and what to look and listen out for would be most appreciated...tia
Hi Rob sorry if i come across as a bit of a dullard, this is all new to me The seller assures me that all no's are correct and that nothing has been tampered with, heres some pics he sent me - what do you think ?
Nice bike....but what does he mean all numbers correct ?? Has he lost V5........ unless you can get it checked out I would stay clear.....yes it looks nice and tidy..... but the real truth on its history lies well below the bodywork....
Looks alright, a few trick bits there too. My first track bike came with no V5. All you can do is try to cover yourself as must as possible by sussing how genuine the seller is and by getting a receipt with his details should it be nicked. I applied for my v5 and it turned out to be 2 years older than the seller told me it was, but I still made money on it as buyers will always pay more for a bike with a v5. Just make sure the bike is sound, even get it MOT'd after you buy to be sure.
Just get a HPI with the vin number see what comes back ? I had a k3 cracking bike it's what got me into trackdays good bike problems never had one
Just recieved this from the seller I bought the bike from a private seller on Ebay. 50+ guy who said that he bought it about 2yrs ago from his friend and that his friend bought it some years ago in Manchester as a track bike. Neither of them had a V5. I went to his house near Gloucester to view it and he had other bikes. There is absolutely no damage to frame or engine numbers and the VIN Plate is in place. He told me that at Donington it was checked by police without issue. Happy to let you have No's for HPI Check if you want to do one. That means it's been a track bike for some time, done 3 Track days in last 2 years and it's showing 11k miles on what appear to be the original clocks. It is fitted with ignition switch, has one key and left switchgear has been removed. I have not used it at all, I have more than one bike and could do with the room in the garage. If it doesn't sell now I may break it or advertise again after Christmas. I understand your concerns, mine were the same, I put my trust in the seller as I went to his home, saw his other bikes etc was happy that he was a genuine bloke. If you want to view it just let me know, I will be around this coming weekend. It starts and runs fine and if I keep it I would give it a good service and a set of tyres before using it on track next summer. It has a Digi Gear Indicator, Alloy Fairing Mount, Crash Bungs, New DID Gold Chain & Renthal Sprockets, Braided Hoses, Slip On Yoshimura Carbon TRC Exhaust without valve, Scorpion Stainless can with standard link pipe and valve and a decent set of rearsets, running conventional road pattern. very very tempted what do you guys think ?
The V5 will always raise different views....... as everyone says some will some wont....... personally I wont as I like history but I guess its not a fortune so if it did go pear shaped you would survive the loss........ask seller to give you some photo ID (Passport).....if he's genuine there will be no issues.....
I reckon if it's genuine then you're gonna increase it's value by applying for the V5, although it does beg the question why the previous owners didn't apply for it themselves.
watch wat your doing police turn up at a trackday and check your bike and its not above board youve lost it it happened few years bac at a trackday it featured in the mcn
