Hi, anyone have any experience of these. I've had a few blades and only ever had Hondas so not sure what to expect. I've been offered one cheap with 50k miles and was thinking would keep the blade out the salt this winter, and then perhaps become a track toy next year? Any thoughts much appreciated. Cheers
Check with Yorkshire tyke, he had a 750 version and while a steep learning curve in his first year on track got mega quick. Engine is pretty tough as far as I know, plenty of spares. I may even have a spare rear wheel for you!
My R6 sold last yr had 55k miles on after 4 yrs ownership from new, she still kicked butt on the twisties was sad to see her go
Thanks for the comments....I hope not to need your back wheel but if I get in to the track days it might be worth buying a spare for wets I guess. Haven't agreed numbers yet as I'll wait until I look at it tomorrow but I reckon it should end up at £1800. Seems cheap enough to me but then a little hard to judge with the miles. I'm just after something cheap for the winter that'll give me options next year. Instinct tells me to go cbr6 but in the quest for keeping the budget down I'm looking at unfamiliar brands.
The vital bit is the service history book .This at least would give you an indication that the 50K miles have been done with the bikes welfare in mind .My son bought a 600 srad I think 02 and it was a minter but needed the Can chain tensioner changed or altered as there was a ticking noise from the top of the engine but otherwise a great bike.Like must items with age or wear one would imagine the fork oil the brake fluid the chain and sprockets and maybe pads and the like will either have been changed or more importantly to you will NEED changing .
I used this for 12 months topped out 186 over the mountain Isle of Man and sold it with 59.450 miles still run like a dream
Mate, its all down to inspection and gut feeling, my 929 was bought with 4k on the clock and sold 4 years later with 90k on it, never saw a dealer or service stamp in all that time, just regular oil and filters every 4k, air filters every 12k, changed the plugs once and thats it, still run as sweet as a nut. Any 2nd hand purchase is simply buyer beware.
Looked alright, just going to sleep on it. Couple of cracked panels, scratch on tank and exhaust so obviously had a very slow spill, also some dodgy Chinese levers and grips, and a bit of corrosion on the swingarm....but, new tyres, shims just done, new head bearings, and fairly decent service record. Started and ran well hot and cold. Said I'd go back tomorrow to look at again and take for a spin. What do you think on the price, it needs to be very good for me to justify buying it. Would £1800 be very good? Seems eBay has them ranging from early 2's to early 3's, but none are directly comparable. Anything else I should be looking out for on inspection? Cheers
if it looks too good...... just did a cheapo HPI text check and registered Cat C write off. Shame as it was starting to look like I had a new bike tomorrow. I even looked him in the eyes and asked if it was HPI clear and he said it was. I suspect this explains why he's selling it after just 2 months of ownership, perhaps struggling to insure it? Question I have though, there was a receipt for £1200 in the stack of paper from 4 months/2k miles ago for the headstock, shims, service, tyres etc etc....who would spend that on a Cat C bike that is probably worth what £1600?? Unfamiliar territory for me, is Cat C a big issue if its cheap enough?
Wouldn't make a difference on insurance, It can put future buyers off though, cat C could be as minor as a few scratches etc, just as replacement fairings are so expensive the insurance companies see it as not worth repairing, there would of been no frame damage with a cat C
Wouldn't mind the view of folks on here in respect of value. So in summary we have a gsxr600 k4 on a 54 plate. This is the spec; Cat c write off-plastics, exhaust, levers etc. Condition now is just side and seat fairing cracked, rest of bike looks good 45k miles Good service records, and all mot's New tyres, head bearings, shims just done Tax, mot, 2 keys, alarmed Looks and rides good I've agreed £1800 with him but get to sleep on it. I don't have a lot of cash knocking around at the moment so it's got to be a cheap bike, and a bike I can move on without any material losses if I need to. What do you think chaps, is that price for that bike cheap and safe? Appreciate all and any comments.
Cat c can put potential buyers off in the future that is the only issue, but its not impossible to shift
I guess so. Probably wipes out a huge percentage of buyers should I need to sell it, but then as long as clearly advertised as such and comes with a v5 etc, it should make an appealing track bike for someone. Just looking at eBay completed listings and there is a cat c there with half the ditch and hedge still stuck in the fairings and swingarm and that's just sold for £1550. Makes this look keen.
I think that is a good deal A mate has a K5 750 and he will wanting £3250 or even £3500 next spring for that End of day its a fairly tidy bike for £1800 - you can pay a little less for a lump of rubbish, and as you say its had a lot spent on it recently as you say, for a track bike with a V5 that has to be worth the best part of £1250 to £1500 - and some people try and sell all sorts of rubbish for that but this looks sound
Thanks for the comments. Deal done and looks like I have a new toy. At least this way I can keep the blade out the salt, and then come next year I can try my hand at a few more track days. If I don't get the time to play at weekends at least I should be able to move this one without any material loss. Paid a tad more than I hoped in the end but found a cheaper insurance deal through Carole Nash (cheers for the tip). Photos when it drys and the sun is up. Cheers
