Decided I'm going to gut the cat tomorrow.. its been bugging me for long enough so before i change my mind, going to take the headers off and attack this cat. Any one got any handy tips? should I cut a window in the box and re-weld or not necessary- just attack through the end??

Will post some pics before / during / after once finished :)

Just mash it out with a hammer and long sharp screwdriver, it's how I did mine on my RR7.
The hardest part is making the initial hole through the honeycomb.
Once that's done then it's a case of just chiselling round the hole chunks at a time.

Remember to give the headers a good shake turned upside down, maybe even poke a flexible pipe down to make sure no lumps are hooked up inside the pipes anywhere.

I think my bike sounds much better with the cat out and seems to have better throttle response too.

Well finally got round to gutting the cat last night. Wasn't as bad a job as I thought, just went for Derchef and Tom's "smash through the end" technique. Started off my making a hole with the drill in the middle of the honeycomb, then a big chisel and hammered the f**k out of it.. all gutted in about 30 mins..

Should be interesting when its back together. I'd like to know how it sounds and runs, especially if you have a Remus can.

Nice one...it's not such a bad job to do is it...it's just the trepidation of making the first "incision" LOL

I hope you saved the honeycomb !!...worth a few bob all the precious metals in it you know... :D

You've gotta get it out on the road and see if it runs well. Loving the carbon body BTW

Absolutely. . Put race air filters in it over the winter so will get it back on the rolling road. Weather looking good over the next few days so I feel a blast coming on!
