As the wife said it is a mixed up world where May Bank Holiday Monday is on a Friday, but hopefully you all have a great day.

Special mention to @Selmer50mark for putting up a flag, well done sir :)

Just to include the obligatory grumpy old man rant can someone please tell the bbc that that WW2 did not on this day as we were still fighting against the Japanese  No wonder those with the Burma Star consider themselves the forgotten army.

Here in the Channel Islands we get our Liberation Day - for us Liberation day here is 9 May which is a Saturday this year.

Not sure if anyone has ever seen the state of some of the German coastal defences in France after they were attacked - this one is near the campsite in St Malo. There is a shell still stuck in the middle that can still be seen....

I do remember going to Guernsey/Sark/Alderney in 1978 and getting in to some of the large Coastal Fortifications. Not sure it was allowed but it was different times then, most of us had Uncles and/or Grandads who fought it WW2.

my great grandfathers medals from ww1 and my grandfather's on both sides and great uncles from ww2. my gt uncle and grandfather were both kiwis. my grandfather was a tail gunner in a Lancaster. he had frostbitten fingers from the cold whilst sat at altitude . as a kid I remember his hand always feeling different to hold . my great grandfather was in the nz rifles and served at the Somme and passiondale. and I know they should be framed and they will be . I'm trying to find a picture of each gent in uniform to have mounted with them.

I have these too. from what I was told i belive one was taken by my great uncle and one by my grandfather. I feel odd about them. it makes it all very real. we keep them apart from the other medals but they were someones son brother husband father uncle and should be treated as such.

Wow - still plenty of history of it all. Not really that long ago in the scheme of things.

A shame we will miss out on a big parade for the 75th Anniversary. Local pub still making the effort !
