Hi anyone fancy giving some thoughts on some of the latest helmets.

I,m thinking of the shark race r pro ,but have seen good deals on the shoei xr1100 and x lite 802.

Thing is I fancy the schemes on some of the arai,s but last arai I had 10 years ago was a disaster really bad fit for my head. Now I know they,ve changed the fit on some models but which ones fit a shoei shape head.

After 3 years of a budget helmet, MrsB treated me to an Arai, I love it, the fit for me is perfect, it is as I was told a little noisy at speed, ear plugs sorted that.
Get to the shops and try as many as you can.
You'll know which ones the right one.

+1 on the XR1100. Had mine for the last 3 years, and will be replacing it again for the next season.

Hi thanks for the replies , i know the shoei , x lite, shark fit me just wondering if any of the new arai,s might be worth a try. Someone must have gone from a shoei to an arai without fit problems ??

I've tried a few Arai's in the last few weeks and I can't get 1 to fit nicely. I really do like some of they're designs and wish they would fit.

Dont overlook the HJC RPA10 or whatever its called with the visor with the central clip - I got mine for a bargain sub £200 price tag in metalic black, then spent £10 on some stickers - its the lightest lid on the market, very quiet and high spec.

Ive only just bought the Arai RX7-GP and the fit is definately different to my previous Arai (Astro R)
So I would say go and Try them on they do differ and its got to be right!

have to say x802 for me, my father has the xr1100 and a rx7
but I have to pick the x802 as it has such a good fit for me but
I say you need to try them all on as a helmet one person likes
    might not suit the next.

I got the matte black/grey one. Came with a 1 clear visor and 1 legal tinted visor + pinlock all in the box.

Very light and comfy with plenty room around the ears and the vents work well.
Has a spoiler thingy on the back, so I don't geat head shake in wind like I used to with my old shark lid.

Lining is removable for cleaning and is highly rated in safety tests.
The only weakness was on side flexibility where it has an average rating.

No frills, buckles, drop visors or bluetooth. All their tech goes into the safety and performance.

I have had Shoei's for years and the X-spirit2 is a brilliant helmet.I tried and nearly went onto Aria's but stayed with Shoei but as others have said try different types and buy what fits you best

I've been looking at both the shoei xr1100 and the HJC Rpha 10 spies replica just last night.

It seems HJC didn't used to be classed as very good/safe but apparently things have moved on quite a bit and the sizing/shape is meant to be similar to the shoei (I can't get an aria to fit as well as my shoei either)

Anyway, I then got in to looking at ratings and its worth looking here - SHARP Helmets - THE HELMET SAFETY SCHEME

Now then here's the interesting bit, the scores are out of 5 and I'd heard the HJC only scores a 3 (which it does) and the xr1100 scores 5.
But it also seems that the very lids I've been wearing for the last 6 years (xr1000 shoei's) also only score a 3....... But when I bought them they were rated very high on safety in various reviews so I'm not entirely sure what's changed in the scoring process.

Also if you look here - Snell Foundation - home They all get accredited with the snell certification, so after all that I'm a tad confused as to what's now classed as safe and what isn't....... Is 3 still acceptable? It was when i bought all 3 of my xr1000's but now its only a 3? is the HJC ok, at least it seems as safe as my lids to date?

    Who knows........

It will just be where the technology has advanced, your helmet which once was a 5 is still as good as some current helmets which score a 3 which are made now. That says to me that the makers of the 3 star ones now are 6 years behind on there technology. They are still safe helmets as they have to pass series of safety tests, but I think you do get what you pay for at the same time

Recently got a Shark S900c as a replacement for an Arai Viper GT. So far so good, has an integral sun visor, air pump system and removable pads for speccy four eye gits like me. Can also get a pinlock visor for it.

Have a look at the Nexx xr1r Carbon Fibre. That's my next helmet. A few forum members have them and rate them gucci.
