Do you guys use anything to seal and protect the visor and the shell? I have used rainX on the visor in the past but not sure if it is the right approach
Baby wipes on the shell, cotton buds on the vents, visor cleaner and then rainex type product on the visor. Nothing protective on it though.
I don’t use anything protective on the shell. If the helmet/shell is covered in flies or road grime/grit, I spray the area with water generously, slap on some kitchen towel on top and spray water on top of that again - like papier-mâché. It has to be drenched and cling onto the helmet, this will soften up the flies. Depending on what it is, leave it for a few minutes as it may take time to loosen/soften the dead flies (hot water works well on stubborn stuff). once it’s sufficiently “pre soaked”, I peel up one corner of the kitchen towel and then in as few movements/strokes/dabbing motion - use the same towel and wipe down the area taking as much of the debris away as I can. It’s important to use as little strokes as possible because kitchen towel is quite rough and can leave fine scratches. once that is done, I then spray the helmet/visor with Motul helmet cleaner and wipe down/dry with an ultra fine micro fibre cloth (the type you get with glasses). On the visor I use a optical glasses lens cleaner spray. If there are nooks or crannies which are hard to access, cotton buds. make sure everything is dry and if need be, re apply silicon oil to any of the rubber seals/gaskets on the visor. a colleague of mine swears by nikwax visor proof To help rain run off, another uses furniture polish. I’m not Convinced on either one to be honest,
Does anyone have Shark lid ? The visors seem to have some kind of anti-fog coating on the inside - just wondering if they need some kind of special treatment so as not do degrade whatever is going on in there with the anti-fog coating.
I did have, swapped it for a pinlock compatible one as it wasn't that great at stopping fogging. From memory the OEM one did need something special to clean the inside of it.
Non Rainex stuff for the visor. Last for ages judging by the fact it has a Hein Gericke price label on it.
Ahhh NikWax, I miss working at Hein gericke in Lincoln used to have so much fun launching the NikWax 'balls' you put in the washing machine around.
yeah HG was my favorite shopping place for clothing: fit, quality & surprisingly price. Y routine is very similar to empty- I was wondering if there's any mileage in using wax (not polish) followed by a sealant. Is the nikwax similar to rain x in terms of results?
I use the motul stuff and always run a pinlock in my arai clear and tinted visor. I use ear buds too on the vents . tend to clean lid every couple of months as I use it each day and its such a pain to remove the dam pods and clean mechanism.
My mate strips lining out puts them in the washing machine and then puts helmet in the dishwasher, I kid you not
