Hi all, just bought a 2005 CBR1000RR 5, with 8K on the clock (when it works!!!!!!) Wouldn't start day after buying, bought new battery (bike been stood..or so I was told...since July last year), sorted for couple of hundred miles. Then clocks stopped displaying anything but the neutral light, (all rest ie revs, speedo not working), checked all connections, seemed to be bad connection to starter solenoid, stripped and cleaned it, silicon greased everything, OK for another few ride outs. Then same problem...no clocks, bike will run till ignition turned off, will not start. Put new starter solenoid on - OK for 300 + miles - then same again!!! not starting till giggle about solenoid wire from the loom (Red Cap) Noticed the fuse (in solenoid) getting hot - not blown, but melting plastic round the fuse - now battery flat.....HELP NEEDED, Any help advice will be muchly, gratefully received.
i,ve read lots of stories about problems on the 04/05 blades with faulty rectifier/regulators or the wiring connected to it. hopefully someone will post on here thats had the problem or try searching this forum and google regarding it. hope your sorted soon
Could be reg/rec. What voltage are you getting to the battery when the engine if running with a few revs?
Hi all bike now blowing fuses on starter solenoid, my old 05 one had a 20amp but my new 04 one has a 30amp not sure which is correct, cheers all for help so far
Hi all just quick update on my blade, checked wires from loom to starter solenoid, seemed loose so fresh connectors crimped on, all ok till rev bike past 5000 revs then clocks go off again and blown fuse, 20 amp, took new starter solenoid off and stripped it apart and found the pins on lower part have virtually broken off maybe with vibration, lesson learned here, dont buy cheap shit pattern parts, have ordered new oe honda solenoid, £100, should arrive tuesday with bit of luck, also when bike running battery output perfect so no charging fault, yours hopefull, chris
It's a 30 amp fuse at the starter, there should also be a spare fuse there too. I have a spare starter solenoid if you need it mate. If its blowing a 30amp fuse I'd check the output of the regulator, you might get an output by sticking the pos from your tester in the red cable that goes into the starter and grounding to the bat neg to save you having to take the fairing off. If its over 15v then I'd try a new reg.
Hi bud, cheers for help, have ordered new genuine solenoid from honda dealer, should arrive this week, also while fairings off want to check reg, rec and gene, im hoping that spending £100 on an oe solenoid will cure my problems, cheers, chris.
Hi all, quick update on my blades elec probs, fitted new genuine Honda starter solenoid, all seems fine at mo, battery output is approx 14.8 while reving to 7000 with high beam on, done 10 miles so far so with a bit of luck will be ok now, cheers all again for helping.
