Hi everyone. I was wondering if someone could help.

I am in the process of checking the valve clearances on my 2005 blade and I made a bad mistake whilst removing the valve cover.

I was drawing it out from the front of the bike but thinking that the valve cover was just wedged against the loom on the LH side I stupidly tried to release that side first and with pulling at an angle I have taken a chunk out of an edge of my valve cover that was fouling the cam chain guide.

Obviously I will need to find a new valve cover but I'm just wondering if I could have done any more serious damage? Should I replace the chain guide?

Again - please excuse the stupidity. I am usually meticulous around bikes and cars but this was a moment to forget!

    Welcome to the forum.

I'm no expert but the guide looks okay, it's stainless is it not and therefore much stronger than the valve cover. That valve cover can probably be repaired by a decent engineer.

Thank you so much! Very helpful!

When turning the crank by hand I can see a constant slither of light between the plastic guide and the chain itself all the way across so yes, thankfully it looks like it hadn't been bent / damaged.

    Panic over!

I think I will buy a second hand valve cover like the one in the link just to be on the safe side.

    Thanks again!

I was checking the valve clearances today and they are all fine barring inlet and exhaust valves on cylinder 4.

The exhaust valve is right on the limit (0.27mm) but the inlet valve seems to be well under the limit.

I can't even get a 0.1mm feeler in. Has anyone encountered anything similar and would there be any reason why this is only happening on cylinder 4?

Has the bike been in storage over the winter?

Have you tried turning the crank over a few times to see if it gets any closer to spec?

Yeah it hasn't been used much at all in about a year. Would lack of use cause a valve to stick?
