I've just been commenting on Hump333's bike sale, I don't know if it's been covered before but I was wondering about the longevity of blades, say 2004 on. Who has the most miles on without major surgery? I can start with 4500 Mile on a 2007 Blade. Two oil changes only! That'll take some beating. Mike.
75k on a 2008 mainly consumables, few mechanical numptyness incidents on my part only failed part the Horn switch stuck on at about 53k pulling into a petrol station full of police in Spain
42k on a 2005 model. Only work done was failed stator, but then that was quite common on this model. It now lives on the track and still going strong!
I'd be more worried about a low mileage, 6 yr old bike than a higher miles bike say 3 years old. Besides, everyone i know on here maintain them regardless of cost. ...irrespective of miles so wouldn't put me off.
Nothing spectacular I just got it backend of this summer, I looked for quite some time, It looked good and I've always wanted to own a blade, and I'll keep it for ever. so I paid a Fair price and I am so happy it's like riding a missile that behaves itself, 'most of the time'. I have had lot's of bikes over the years but I didn't know what I was missing.
Did 95k on an RRY in 5 years, never even had a valve check, just 2sets of front discs and reg/rectifier and 4k oil changes.
Bought it from my mate on the IOM at 6 months old, so it had a complete shafting for the first 4k, then got similar treatment for the next 90! Always used semi syn Castrol and Honda filter (never used any between changes) and any petrol from supermarket to branded normal unleaded. K&N air filter and from memory changed the plugs twice. Thirsty beast compared with later Blades but bullet proof.
Not 250000k on one, but this is my 4th in the last 13 years and i am closing in on that figure overall I reckon, had the odd issue over the years, recalls for fuel hoses, front fork legs, broken ignition keys, all fairly minor, the only thing that is tarnishing the whole thing is these poxy ABS brakes that forget to stop every so often.
Sounds great and encouraging up to now, thought we might get engine blows, piston pickups and gearboxes exploding, considering the power output, these bu@@ers sound pretty tough.
Bought me R6 new with delivery miles only ( 6 miles ) in 2008 fir £6350 Sold her 4 yrs later with 55k miles on for £2500 Only servicing n tyres were the biggest costs, no probs mechanically apart from the cable fir the exhaust valve stopped working but gor a cheap one off evil bay
