I am looking at buying your dash for my 2014 zx10r but have a few questions which i hope you could help with...

The instructions talk about the firmware and how it may need updating, does this mean i need a usb cable and will plugging it into my macbook pro to down load such software be ok?? Or do i need a computer with windows??

It explains that when i am at a track i need to set beacons, to do this i need to get a good gps signal then ride my bike at 8mph whilst trying to set the beacons, is this right??

Those are the two questions i have for now..

    Many thanks....

    Hi guys.

You need a windows machine yes. MAC support is not available and trust me, if it could be it would as Im a MAC user myself ;)

From time to time we release updates whether it to increase the GPS accuracy or an additional feature or a bug has been found and in this case you would via a USB cable connect to a windows based machine to upload the fw using a program from our website.

For the GPS. The beacons are what you "drop" if you want to have sectors on the timing or you manually want to record the start/finish point of a lap. So to drop these beacons you need to be moving faster than 8mph and have at least 5 (I think :/ ) sats. This ensures accuracy. To drop them you would already have selected manual mode and would have to press the button when you pass the point you want to record as the start/finish and then at the points where you want the sectors.
If you are not worried about that you can set it to Auto mode which will record the start/finish point of the lap at the first point it crosses over itself. What I mean by that is the Dash is constantly laying a trail down of what we call breadcrumbs. So as soon as it crosses over itself it nows a complete lap has been made. So this would typically be the part of the track where you pull on from pit lane.

Off course it matters not where the start finish is as a lap is a lap.

    Hope that helps.

This does help some Toby so thank you for your reply...

So from this i take it race tracks aren't already stored in the dash memory?

Ive changed the gearing on my bike, would the HM dash recognise this and correct the speedo to the new gearing?

When road riding could the GPS be used to get a more accurate speed as we know speedo's are always wrong??

I suppose you could set your beacons on sighting laps that we are made to do....

I believe you can set your sprocket size (teeth) in the setup so the unit can compensate for this. Will have a good look at mine when it gets fitted tomorrow :D

You can set the sprocket sizes to hm dash but the speedo will read different in the gear set up so you will have to set up the gears even if you don't have a gear position sensor on bike

    Lol, sorry ;)

The lap timing feature of the Dash is exceptional, especially with its incredibly accurate predictive lap timing too ;)

Didn't realise there was a second page.

Tracks are not currently stored. You can adjust the sprocket size, both the front and the rear and it will rad correctly. Failing this you can set the speedo source to GPS which is accurate as we all know the speedo are out by a few mph on purpose.

Exactly - why would you bother adjusting the gearing on the dash when you do this often when you can just run it on GPS and its spot on?

I was amazed how quick it set itself up on auto and was recording my laps, without setting beacon points etc...

Although this function and the sectors etc is something I really want to get into - spec if you can share sector times with others so you know how they are going faster than you at certain points of the track :(
