Hi,I recently purchased an HM GP on the forum deal,an excellent offer I think we all agree. The deal was for the plug and play loom and this is where issues have arisen. I've decided to post on here to see what other people's experiences have been,and to try and get a response from Ben who I have spoken to twice this week and has promised to phone back but never has. In my opinion,the loom is not long enough to fit effectively on a 2012 fireblade. Once you have fitted both parts of the loom onto all connectors there is not a reasonable way to connect both parts with the control unit part of the loom. The problem is that the left hand coil connector sits far forward and once you've run the cable back there is not enough length to run it past the throttle bodies to connect to the other part. I could have squeezed it in there and forced the connectors together but it would have been near impossible to separate them again and I believe you need access to this 2 pin plug if you have an issue to bridge them(no bridging clip included either). Also I did not want to damage the cables by pulling on them. I've managed to connect them but they are sitting in the hollow in the frame behind the fairing,but I don't feel this is suitable as water would easily get to the connectors when riding in the wet or washing the bike. When you spend this much money on something I would expect it to have fitted better and all parts included,like the bridging clip which bypasses the shifter in event of failure(which would hopefully never happen but you never know) Other than this,and the wrong length of shift rod (not received the 150mm one yet) my impression of the product is high,the connectors fit well and have a quality feel about them. Once I get it installed properly I'm sure I'll have many years of enjoyment with it.
Hi Ross, maybe my recommendation of putting the connector in a place where you can get to it was a little OTT, it's only I that place it where it can be accessed for need of getting to it without removing the whole air box, that does not mean to say placing it under or near the left hand fairing would not save you a tonne of work to disconnect it if need be, as for waterproofing the connectors are fully waterproof and do not need to be hidden from rain etc, the coil packs often get very wet with steam and water from the headers in rain etc. As for the loom being too short I still have not fitted a PnP sub loom so I can not comment on it. The rod however I expected you had it by now and I will chase it Monday for you, if you have tried to call me anytime I apologise for my bad signal that has got worse over this year, thanks to EE who seem to think the UK is fully covered, EE your coverage is crap!, always leave a message and I will call you back. Hi Ross. It's strange that yours doesn't seem long enough as mine has been fitted so that I can disconnect with out removing anything, maybe yours has been made an inch shorter, that inch would've put me in the same boat as you. As for the plugs getting wet, I don't think you've anything to worry about because all the plugs you fitted are good quality and basically the same as the ones you've piggy backed into (you've just got twice as many now lol). I do agree it would've been nice to get the bridge plug, but by all accounts "you'll never need it anyway". The only worry I have about the equipment is the lack of bung for the micro USB port, but I'm sure ill sort that out before to long. Ps, I got my replacement rod within 24hrs. Andy B
You're right about EE,every time I pull my phone out of my pocket these days it says no signal. I spoke to Ben on tue and he said the rod went out first class on Monday,spoke to him again on thur after he never phoned back about the loom and still hadn't received the rod. The small 3 pin connector that joins the crank sensor part of the loom to the control unit doesn't look waterproof,just a plastic twist fit. It also looks slightly strained at the y split part of the loom and don't want to have problems in the future. I know HM are probably very busy but regardless of who you are,weekend road rider or BSB racer,if you purchase one of their top end products I would have expected better responses from them.
Ah ok, yes the three pin VSS/CPS plug should be placed under the tank out the way, normally you can reach in and disconnect it if need be, your correct in that the lesser (note the high end mil spec connector is 100.00 approx!) connector supplied with the PnP loom is not fully waterproof but should be sufficient given the placement. Not sure why Ben has not called back or why your rod has not been sent, fire me a txt or reminder on Monday in case I forget and I will find out for you. One thing I will say is whatever the reason HM have not called back will not be that your a "basic" customer, HM treat all the same from GP teams to us run of the mill riders I'm sure it's just slipped by.
Hi Ross, Sorry about this and your replacement was sent last week and another was sent the 2nd time we spoke. As for not calling you back we have had issues with out phone lines and internet being intermittent at best. I don't know if you follow us on FB but you will see a post made then when we realised we were missing a lot of calls and not being able to make calls. BT are coming out today to fix apparently as this is causing us a major headache!!! And yes, as Arthur says no one gets treated any different so please accept my apologies for the trouble and I will send a 3rd rod today via courier. Regarding the lengths, these are the standard lengths they are made to after a lot of research with the guys this is aimed at and custom lengths are available on request. However, in light of the issues I will have a 10cm extension sent today with the rod.
Well,after what was quite literally a breakdown of communications I spoke to Ben on Monday morning and he sorted me out with a loom extension and smaller shift rod. A big thanks to Ben and the team at HM for the extension,which has allowed me to install the unit perfectly on my bike.

Ross I am thinking of getting one of these but never seen anyone that has used one, what are your thoughts on the gp shifter
Hi Lee,I've not had a chance to use this on the road yet,just setting it up on paddock stand. First impressions were that it is really well made,quality components and once I got the small extension lead fits perfectly. Setting it up is a breeze and with you being able to adjust everything separately for each gear you can set it exactly how you want it. It's prob overkill for road use(all the data logging etc) but it's the only one that'll safely do 1st to 2nd gear and as I spent £13k on the bike I see it as a worthwhile spend.
