I fitted one to my R1 Last year Tyke and when it comes to anything mechanical im useless but surprisingly i found it relatively easy. Seat off, tank up, remove the air box and fit HM loom to top coils. Then new shift rod, tidy away and play.

Have you given any thought about having your ecu flashed?? Made an incredible difference to my R1 and there are some great British companies that exclusively work on Yamaha ecu's...

Already had a cusom map done and put in my PC3 on the r6 MM. Thanks for the reply though! If you installed it on the R1 without a hitch then the R6 should be relatively trouble free.

A custom map on a pc3 can't remove restrictions or set riding preferences like a flash tune Tyke, have a read of this mate Home - VeloxRacing - European and UK home of Flash Tune, Flash-tune dealer and Yamaha R1 R6 Performance parts and tuning Mike the guy that does this is always contactable and easy to talk to and i can honestly say the difference you notice are just breathe taking....

Yes the R6 should be a piece of cake mate, if i can do it a chimpanzee can do it lol....

    I'm a little confused...

SO I send my ECU away to get reflashed. How do they know what to setup the map etc. like for the exhaust sytem I have?? Mine's a hybrid- Micron Serpent Headers with a MHP Clubman End Can. Would I then have to spend more money getting it dyno'd and setup?? Gonna hvae cost me 300 notes by now!!

Lol, Tyke i only post this link as it may or may not interest you. If someone uses this route they have two choices, one is to send your ecu and speak to Mike telling him exactly what you want and what parts you have added so he can taylor your ecu to your requirements and mods.. So for example if you've ever ridden a current R1 14b then you will know that the engine breaking is extremely intrusive and when setting off or in lower gears it can be like ridding a tractor. The R1 like all bikes has throttle restrictions for example your in 3rd throttle fully open yet your only receiving 70% power. All these things can be adjusted and reset giving you full power when you want, reducing engine break to how you like it, or if your like me none at all...

The other option is to buy the interface cables yourself, this would mean you could set your bikes ecu up how and whenever you want, even at track side...

However the most important thing is having your bike run how you want it, so if your bike is good and you have her running exactly how you like it then theres no need to change things, imo....

You will be fine with the HM shifter mate and will no doubt do it eyes shut;)

was pretty easy to install on my R6 2003 , so shouldn't be too much of a pita on yours... tank off, airbox off, seat off and away you go

you don't need a reflash unless your serious about getting the last tenths out of the bike. more than enough people ride without having the reflash done
