    Hi guys

Bike not starting at the moment...
    :(

So I went and bought an hm quickshifter superlite and went to install.

Tried on Saturday, but assumed plugs were at back of engine not front, so put everything back together (having removed airbox).

All reassembled and working fine for a ride on Sunday.

Armed with new knowledge, I went forward again this evening, realising the plugs were underneath the rubber heat shield under the airbox.

Plugging it all in was a bitch, but after taking left side off and slipping the air ducts out, I was able to hook all the cable up.

I took my time and double checked and reassembled it all very carefully... Came to turn it over and it cranks but no ignition.

I checked the obvious things like the kill switch.

No spark. Hm blinked twice at me when I turned the key though.

Then I looked at the end of the loom that fortunately is accessable through the left hand slit. One of the pins was pushed up out of the plug (as per photos).

I managed to reseat the pin by pushing the cable through with the end of a coathanger, but it still won't ignite.

I really don't want to have to pull the whole thing apart again.

    So any ideas?

And a question... If I short the two pins together, does that effectively bypass the hm and allow the bike to operate as normal?

    Any help appreciated!!

Sounds like you haven't got a good earth

Bugger - that's not good to hear!

Okay - I had a quick google and poor earth seems to display these symptoms.
Unfortunately, I can't get the earth to the battery, so was on the frame. I just disconnected it from the frame and ran a bit of speaker wire to take it to the battery (just to see if it would spark). No joy.

I'll try calling HM tomorrow and see what they think and when I get time I'll try and put together a better earth solution (as I guess it's possible that it's still getting a poor earth via the speaker wire). Will probably need to charge the battery too now!

Yes, I'm pretty sure Arthur told me if you bridged the connection it will bypass the QS. If it's not firing up though that sounds like a different issue. Have all connections under airbox gone back on right, check you haven't trapped fuel line or wire under tank. Good place for Earth on back of the block

If the display isn't coming on its either earth issue or the shifter its self is faulty

As above make sure the earth is good! You can short the plug and see if the bike fires up then you know the shifter is faulty

Thanks - I'll try bridging it before anything else then.
Like I say, I felt like I took my time reassembling so would be nice to be able to do a quick check before anything else.

    Nothing when bridged then...

So that leaves me two possibilities, I guess.
    1) I messed up putting the airbox back on somehow.
    2) Faulty loom from hm.

Both require me to pull the whole thing apart again :(

And to top it off, now I can't find the battery charger!!
    Doh!!

Going on holiday tomorrow though, so this will most likely sit till I'm back.

Thanks for all the help so far!

I'd check you've plugged everything in right. Same thing happened to me when I fit the bazzaz, I left a up off on top of the air box. Plugged in job done.

If it's the HM lite it doesn't require a positive feed, just an earth, if you have a bad earth then the quickshifter will not work! But the bike will still fire up and work as normal so that's not your problem, I would retrace what you have disconnected and make sure it's all correctly fitted back up and you don't have any other issues, if the connector has an issue and its not making a connection I think it will become open circuit! It's like it's fooled into cutting the ignition if it's not making the right connections, it will also pay to make sure the Orange and the Grey are round the correct way once connected as they had a big batch of reversed leads last year, mine was one of them! They sent me out a new lead but in the end I hardwired in so no issues.

Centre rubber hose under the airbox had pulled off the bottom mount (obviously I pulled it too much when reconnecting).
Taking 5 mins and will put it back together again...
    Fingers crossed!

    What a dick.

Disconnected this blue connector to route loom and didn't reconnect it.
No one to blame but myself.

Glad it's sorted. Did it prime? Usually that's a tell tale of user/instal/something not plugged in/error....

Sadly, I think Hm do kop a lot of bad press for install or set up error.

Lucky for me Dave helped (done it for me) install and set up my + and it's been totally mint since day 1

Holy crap it feels good to have the engine running again!!
Just goes to show, I need to be more patient and triple check all my work.
On the plus side, I'm getting really good at taking the airbox off!
Going to finish putting it all back together and then will set up the quickshifter properly.

Its one of those things where sometimes a quick tea/coffee and go back to it helps

    At least it's sorted
