Well thank HMRC. on the phone waiting for 20 mins to talk lyn Why. got 2 PAYE ref numbers including a BR and said I had need to pay 6k tax back I have one job that I have had for 15 years. no changes. Had to laugh when Lyn said it was prob the fault of the employer, which it's not. as i told Lyn I work for the family and do the payroll. Then she told me they have it down I have 2 payroll numbers at work. which I don't and it would be me who send them to the HMRC Twonks. They are now going to put me back on my original tax code which I was happy with
every communication i have ever had with HMRC to complain about tax demands, has ended up in me having to pay even more!!! I have never spoken to anyone there that seem to have a clue what they are doing. All you get is "computer says no". I am sure (I hope) this is a mass generalisation and out HMRC employees are top notch????!!!!
Don’t get me started on this one. Same thing, tax demand for unpaid tax, I have been with the same company for 13 years and payroll are telling me they have not made any mistakes it’s the IR who have screwed up. I also have income from another source but the IR are telling me that the tax I will pay on that is fine, its the employed section that is a t fault. Looks like another accountant’s bill will be coming my way. On a more positive note. I have discovered that if you are paid via the salary sacrifice system which increases your pension contribution whilst reducing your tax burden you can pay the whole of a company bonus payment straight into your pension without paying the 40% tax hit, get the 40% tax relive on the whole amount and if your company also gives you the National Insurance benefit, that can go straight into the pension as well. Bonus payment + the 40% tax you would pay + 40% tax benefit + National Insurance -V- Take the money – 40% tax, lose of 40% tax benefit and NI Get your own advice first but it’s a no brainier as far as I am concerned. I know where my bonus is going. NB: As I am not FSA approved. I never told you any of this and the forum post will self destruct in 30 seconds.
Twonks indeed. I'm having to go & find a tax specialist, as they've decided (the computer says it) I owe 5,700 & have put me on a K tax code!
I'm PAYE, always have been with no other income. Got a bill a while back for around 2k. Luckily my dads in the game, I did actually owe the tax for the year in question but was proved to be an "official error" on their part as my firm had advised them of the change in taxable benifits. A19. "Giving up tax where there are Revenue delays in using information", ended in them owing me money as got my dad to review all tax's paid over a few years. Seems there's loads of it going on at the moment, the outlaw retired 2 years ago, was PAYE and has just had demand for 1.5k hit her
