Prompted by a chat with Dave D, I'm going to share this. I took this last week and it's rained a lot since and we're due a lot more. I'm not quite so cocky as I was a fortnight ago about 'it's fine. Won't be a problem at all.

Roll on July, but guys, bring your snorkels...

Looks like it's got a long way to get to your house, Ken.

Looks ominous but also looks like you are on a bit higher ground from the pic. How is the ark coming on ?

Yeah, it's all good Rich. So far. That line of bushes passing behind the houses there is the village bypass. It had to be raised because of the marsh, so it's acting like a dike, currently. When I come home at night, I try not to look to the left if I can help it. The advantage we have is that the estuary is so big, once it stops raining and we get a low tide, it's like somebody's pulled the plug. However, less and less of it is running away at those moments recently.

I've been doing a series of stitched panoramics of it since just before Xmas from the ridge above the village which are interesting. Day by day there must be millions of gallons of water difference in the same frame.

You ever tried grabbing two cats at once, Nige....?

According to my sat nav, we're 9 metres above sea level. According to our insurance company we're living in Atlantis already, bastards.

Here's an interactive map showing you how much it can rise before it hits your house. From what I've gleaned from the forum I think I've found your road on google maps and you're safe from a rise that would put most of Exeter under water.

Excellent. Hopefully, work will be gone by the morning.

Actually, according to this, my sat nav is pretty close.

Excellent map, a 60 metre rise and my house is still ok and I've only got a ten minute ride to get fish and chips on the coast! Thank fook for the Pennines.

60 m and we are dry, but will have a nice sea view a couple of miles away, think I will start looking at possible local mooring points for the prospective yacht purchase.

Looking at the picture Ken the river and flood plan is doing what it says on the tin - holding flood water.

Us humans have mad it an issue by using flood plains for housing and similar developments.

It really is terrible what's going on in Somerset - Michael Evils who has to pay small fortune to performers to appear at Glastonbury Festival should challenge the artists to waive their fee for this year and donate the money to assist those affected by the flood.

You've hit the nail, Al. We've got 2500 new builds going up within parish boundaries and both district council and developers are circling the marsh like vultures, but most of it belongs to the RSPB and is underwater for a third of the year.

I actually prefer it like it is as it keeps the bastards away.

Well I turned up this weekend to go on exercise with the army reserves (TA) everything thing cancelled and we ended up being moved to all the worse affected areas in Berkshire and have been filling and laying sandbags to help the worse affected people
