I've had a look a couple of times now at removing the pillion pegs but each time I think surely it can't b that hard. Surely?
a lot of patience and about 2-3 hours the back end of the bike has to come apart look at my album there's a pic in there of it half done http://1000rr.co.uk/members/mel-albums115-1149.htm
Jeez it does look as bad as I thought it would b. Not looking forward to this at all. I think I'll leave that till it's hibernation time then.
I did mine mine last week the time is realising you have gotta remove the lot it's easy enough but Jesus on the GSXR it takes 1-2 minutes tops lol Honda do make em well
I had to strip the hole back end , split the subframe and remove the pillion pegs 1 at a time. took about 2.5 hours http://1000rr.co.uk/general-1000rr-discussion/406.htm
It's a pain in the ass. Fit Sato street hooks, so they it becomes a 2 min job to remove/install the pegs: SATO RACING | CBR1000RR ('08- ) Street Hooks Fitted to my bike:
Thanks It really is an afternoon job then. I'm going to wait till I put the bike away for the winter n do it then. I've got a powercomander and LED lights to fit anyway, so may aswell do it all at once. I can see myself making those hooks.
I was the same Ben. I had a gixxer before this and I think that's what's kinda put me off soon this because it was so easy that bike.
Everyone complains about this and the fairing removal, but the point is Honda designed this stuff to have no visible fasteners on the outside so the bike looks clean, minimal and simple. That's why it's different to a GSXR/ZX/R1.
get a offset screwdriver from halfords bout 3 quid and cut the flat end bit off with a dremel a real help so you dont have to pull all the tank of and battery tray can just pull it up a little
I'm not complaining about the build quality mate. I love that. That's why I bought the Honda. Just gives me something to do during the winter. N to me tinkering is the next best thing to riding
I didn't have to do any of that anyway . Stripped the back , Split the subframe and removed each side 1 by 1 to unscrew the pegs
Take rear end plastics and seat lock off take battery out and pull a resistors off etc, make sure all fasteners holding the tray in are loose then slip it up out and backwards but not completely, just twist it 90 degrees remove one then the opposite way to remove the other I did have to un bolt the tank to get at all the fasteners though, I'd say if I had to do it now I know how to I could do it in 60-90 minutes tops
Once it is done it is done.. Mine wont be going back on in a hurry . Maybe when i sell the bike but not when im the owner . I hate taking pillions , ruins the handeling , kills my back and most of al im responsible for that pillions life .. No thanks
My thoughts exactly Dan. I've never wanted to take anyone on the back with me either. Couldn't bare it if something when wrong.
Has anyone here taken the pegs off of the ABS model. If so is there anything else I need to watch out for or do?
