Ok, so we have had a thread on alarms, and putting the blade to bed for winter.
As winter is fast approaching "well it is oop North" and the dark nights are drawing in maybe it's a good time to review the security of your bikes home.

For example did you get that new lock/alarm fitted yet, or is it still in it's box?

Do you advertise the fact you have a bike behind your door?

These are mint, but it's a good way of letting scumbags know what lies behind those doors.

Members may have hints and tips, that makes you think, that's a good idea? I'll try that!
we may be seasoned bikers, but sometimes we forget the simple things. So come on folks let's make sure we've done our best, I really don't want to be reading any stolen bikes threads that's for sure. :)

What a great thread Gary! Well mine lives in an attached garage that's alarmed, ground anchor, keys locked away, garage door drilled and secured at three points, and if I'm at home when they try a big baseball bat called Wilson !!

Mine lives in the back bedroom of my ground floor flat during winter, ideal for the many mods i have/will be adding this hibernation period. During summer months the bike is in a converted coal shed right next to my front door which only houses my electric meter and is ample storage and very secure

Disc lock, ground anchor & a big ass chain....but....any monkey with a petrol disc cutter & a transit could be off with it.

Security is all about deterrent. If someone wants it bad enough, they'll nick it. A friends, Dad's mate had his 916 nicked in the late 90's. Tow truck reversed up the drive, ripped the garage door off. Thieving scum bags came in with a disc cutter, through the chain, slung it in the back of a van & off they went, never to be seen again.

bloody secure, takes us 10 mins with the keys!! :) I took on some bike thieves earlier this year, got them involved in a police chase with 2 vans, 6 cars, met and essex police collaboration, they ended up being arrested.. never came back. I dont blame em, as i chased one down the road with a bat, i was 35 weeks pregnant, proved i could still run.. partner was on the phone to the police as i shouted back the number plate, and proved they had more to be scared of than i was.... touch my fuckin fireblade will ya? :D lol

There's nothing to be done against that, those people were obviously focused on getting that bike, what ever the cost, anything we do is only a deterrent, or a bid to slow them down.

well I can't compete with the above but I can recommend Almax chains. Had mine for 5 years

Almax Immobiliser Series IV Uber + Squire SS65CS Lock --- Almax Security Chains Ltd

Not cheap but will last for many bikes. Nothing with put a professional thieve off but the more the better. So in a brick garage, Ground Anchor, chain lock. garage alarm. and a few more bits

    worth watching their vids also

vs the series 4 from Almax

    Ooh, keeping it on topic.

I have a well locked up collection of bikes and a very well know bad temper.
I only had one incident with some one taking a car on me and he was a very sorry scum bag by the time Carma paid him a visit and hospitalised him.
But time cures all he can know walk again. Just not near me or my house.

A metal cage wired to the house mains ......... joke . Tripple car garage next to the house . Pretty quite village but thats what the buggers target . As the bike collection grew we upgraded the main doors to a modern anti brake in jobby that bolts into the floor . Double glazed windows and a modern plastic back door . A ground anchor for each bike with a chain running through the frame and chains running through linking all bikes together . If they want 1 then they will have to take the lot lol..

I know if they want 1 then they will have it but hopefully i have made it hard enough that it takes a while and makes a lot of noise giving me time to get the cattle prod out
