Okay, silliest of silly questions here.

How do you check the oil on a 2013 Fireblade? Every other bike I have had has a window on the side of the engine. This one doesn't and I can't put my hand on the owners manual at the moment.

    Thanks in advance

right hand side of engine ( as your sat on bike) next to the clutch cable is the oil filler cap, the dip stick is below and to the right of the filler

Is it best to check with the engine warm or cold?

im not sure ? i think your supposed to run the engine up to temp then let the oil settle then check, but ive done it whilst cold and warm and not noticed any difference in level !!!

im sure someone will be along to give you the correct answer tho :)

I found having it right on the top fill line will give false neutrals. Must be crankcase pressure?

I check mine regularly but bang in the middle is perfect

Engine Oil needs to be hot then left for 15-20 mins to settle then take a reading then.

......................................in reality anytime will do but as stated do not screw in the Dip-Stick to get an accurate reading, just rest it on the the top thread.

how do you get the bike level ? if you have the bike in a paddock stand it's tipped up at the back giving you a false reading ?

That is a cracker, it's made my morning.

For me level ground and standing on the side of the dip stick, I just pull the bike towards me and off the side stand to let the bike lean on me slightly, bend down and pull me dip stick out, this way I know the bike is upright. If there's a chance of it falling away from me I know the stand is down, other than that it will fall the other way on top of me haha.

No.1 - Checking oil is easy when sat on bike as below:

No.2 - If oil level is low (as per this pic which annoyingly my mate took and focused on the fairing not dip stick) you buy some oil
    [IMG]

No.3 - You pour in some oil and check level
    [IMG]

No.4 - If going on a long trip, carry an extra litre (and early Blackberry cameras were rubbish!)

After 80k I've checked mine a few times...

I always put mine on paddock stands, run for 2 to 3 mins, switch off and let it cool for 5 mins , then re check.
I do not screw the dip stick back in on the re check (see manual) . Top up as required. Do this every 400-500 miles.
I use about 1/4 of a cup full most times. Had bike from new, coming up to 24000miles.

Using a Front & Rear Paddock stand creates a level playing field!
