so been paid for a job I done a few months ago; now I have a little cash behind me I’m not sure what to do with it. One part of me is telling me I should clear the tiny amount of finance on my bike then buy some upgrades for it. Another part is telling me to save and buy a supermoto as a second bike. Does anyone else have a supermoto? What’s the thoughts on them on the road? Haven’t ridden anything similar since my MX days, didn’t want one as an only bike as I thought they wouldn’t be enough for me. I’m so lost!
Look at it this way: Will you use, and get more enjoyment from a supermoto than cleared finance and upgraded Blade?
Are the finance payments crippling? Are you regularly skint? If not get your self a second bike. There’s always collateral and if you ever need ready cash it’s there.
I always take care of current obligations before taking on new ones. But that's just me. I have a problem with loose ends.
Some differences of opinions there. The finance payments are minuscule tbh, £30 a month. Initially I took a small finance with the intention of paying it off early. Now I have some cash I think f’ it, I’ll go for it. Really in two minds, it’s more the upkeep of two bikes I have to think of, and that I don’t get a lot of chance to ride one! Would love the racefit and fairings on the blade but I can’t help to think it could be a waste of money and detract future value from the bike - I know that’s not why we buy them, but it’s always in the back of my mind!
With regards to costs, consider this: Depending on insurance company, you might be able to add the 'moto' to the Blade policy, which in many cases brings a significant saving. Tax the 'moto' as a monthly Direct Debit. I do this with mine, so if, for instance, I know there will be a period of 2 - 3 months or more where a certain bike won't be ridden, I just SORN the bike and cancel the Direct Debit. (Actually, the DD is automatically cancelled upon DVLA's processing of the SORN). There are cases both for and against resale values with or without Chinese fairings. A Rothmans scheme is always desirable and perhaps can make the bike more 'saleable'. The sale price can be made to include the OEMs but delete if purchaser haggles over price too much. I did exactly that with my 2011 'Castrol'. Sold the bike with Chinese on and sold the OEMs on eBay for £380.00 - which was probably too cheap. Same with Racefit. They're always in demand so you wouldn't lose by selling it separately if needbe.
More what the misses will say if I have two bikes in the stable now... the exhaust and fairings will go unnoticed somewhat! I can’t hid a second bike as easily though lol
Just tell her you HAVE to have a second bike to preserve the value of the first one. If she's blonde, she'll easily understand.
Haha I don’t think I’d get away with either really! She’s very money smart... meaning she always knows when I’ve spent some!
You sound just like me A second bike is always in the back of my mind, I'd more than likely go for a road legal motocross / enduro myself, can do a bit of off road green laneing then! At least then you've got the opportunity to do a completely different style of riding. You're probably only going to ride a supermoto on the road...... You can do that on your blade!
I must admit I have the same feelings about a moto, It would be the type of thing you could take out if the weather was not 100% but you just fancied a trip out, If you drop a moto it would be a lot cheaper than the CBR . It would also keep the CBR in better condition
