Well after thousands of miles on the Blade (and others bikes) without problems I now have a rather battle scared Blade sat in the garage.

Cut a long story short while following 2 mates in slow / heavy traffic I looked in mirrors for a second or two, looked up and they were static at pedestrian crossing, with last bike about 2m in front of me with me doing 15 - 20 mph.

HUGE panic / handful of front brake and next thing bike at about 85' from vertical, it falls to right side and clock mount / mirror lands of kerb with me taking rest of weight of bike on inside right leg.

    Good things:
I was pretty much un-hurt / nothing broken
I did not crash into my mates

    Bad things
Fairings destroyed (nose cone, LH and RH upper fairing,
clock mount bracket damaged / bent in impact
    Minor damage to RH mirror
    Small crack in headlamp unit

    More good things
    Mates had cable ties,
I had gaffer tape with me
Happened outside a police station (gendarme arrived in about 2 seconds!)
Bike was rideable - so I rode it another 300 miles that day
Was the miss-fitting Chinese fairings which were destroyed
Mates really helped at the time - even if it was to take photos of the skid mark / general piss taking.

Pleased I did not hit either of my mates bikes as outcome could have been much worse.

As they say 'everyone likes a project for winter'

Will add pictures - its done well over 2,000 miles since this happened and has only needed clock mount brackets tightened up once in that time.

Glad your ok mate, that's the main thing (well apart from your pride). :)

If your not to bothered about a visual crack on the headlight (if that's all it is). For a cheap make do, you could use venture shield to protect it from water getting in. Not what I'd do, but a cheap fix.

Well I'm shocked and gutted for you Alan, all those miles we did to Wales and Scotland and you never put a foot wrong! It just goes to show no matter how good a rider you are (and he is!) it can happen to anyone at anytime bar no-one! Chuffed you didn't hurt yourself mate.

Was just 'one of those things' had no reason to look in mirrors to check where my mate was, could not see him so looked for a second or 2 rather than a glance and that's all it took!

Shit news Al, pleased your ok though. The bike can be repaired.
Bones are much harder to get replacements for.
As said look forwards to the thread and a debrief of the trip as a whole.

Colin, thanks for those links - prices look good, but I just hope they both fit correctly - but at £100 for BOTH parts delivered its not bad at all and almost worth taking the chance.

Guess somebody on the forum has to be first to try them

I bought a full fairing set and headlight from hong kong/china for my blackbird and I have no complaints mate. All I had to do was drill out a few holes to the right size and they fitted nicely.

Here's a link to give you an idea of how they look on the bird, which took much the same damage as yours.
