I have hit the 1 year anniversary of when I quit smoking

To say I am quietly proud and slightly chuffed with this achievement is an understatement.

Here is to the next 12 months as an ex smoker.

Well done. I quit on my 30th birthday, and I seriously rank it as one of the best things I've ever done. Keep it up!

I found it very easy and I have had no major cravings at all.

But then I do have an added incentive to stay off the fags. It is called Heart Failure. But I actually gave up 3 months before I was taken ill and diagnosed.

Very well done T.C. It has been ten years for me. Recently packed in taking sugar in tea/coffee too.

    Well done mate.

I went from up to 60 Marlboro a day to zero, cold turkey, over 30 years ago and as 1000rr73 says it's the best single thing that I've done.

To make sure I stay that way I've never so much as held a cigarette since.

Just over 3 years ago for me.

Tried and failed several times and then read Allen Carr's Easy Way to Quit Smoking. Scrunched up the box of cigarettes I had left, threw them in the bin and haven't touched one since and, perhaps more importantly, haven't wanted one either.

Funny thing is, despite having smoked somewhere close to 65,000 cigarettes over the course of my life, whenever I see people smoking now it seems like such an alien and crazy thing to do. Guy in a car in front of me yesterday was smoking and I was sitting there thinking, "mate......how can you do that to yourself. It's killing you!"

    It does seem madness !!

My dad smoked for years, 80-100 a day, give up a few years ago.

Also like a few drinks down the pub for the last 30years too.

Had a stroke in January and recovered from that after 6 weeks in hospital, after 3 weeks at home he had trouble eating and swallowing.

Been told yesterday he has throat cancer and spread to his lymph glands and not curable.

Treatment will only prolong his life.

If you can give up it can only be a good thing, he knew the risks and took the gamble.

It is difficult mate to start with but after all this time is worth it. It is just a habit at the end

Similar story here. My Dad smoked around 30 per day for nearly 50 years. He hardly drank but he had a minor stroke when he was around 62 and was told to pack in. He ignored the docs and then one morning, aged 64, he had a funny turn (most likely another minor stroke). I made him a strong cup of tea which normally pulled him round (this had happened a couple of times). Sure enough he started to feel a bit better. Naturally the first thing he did after feeling a bit better was to light up. He then started feeling ropey again and then had the massive heart attack that killed him.

The docs showed up, then the undertaker. After they'd all left I put the kettle on and, yup you've guessed it, smoked about 3 fags on the bounce.

    You couldn't write it!

I gave up in 1999 and even now there are times I could murder a ciggie. First smoked about 9 years old and was on 20+ a day from the age of 17.

Could help but like it !!!

After weeks I got worn down about my dad n visiting him everyday, I just needed a drink too, strange how we are like demented lemmings we are !! :D

Like people say don't ride/ drive fast, people said all his life speed would kill him.

He's take on it is " oh well, can't live for ever".
Think I'm more upset than him.

That's the funny thing. It invariably has a much more lasting effect on your loved ones than it does on yourself.

My Dad won't have known much about it. The selfish f*cker just left me to pick up the pieces :D

Its not SWMBO that needs to quit, she has never smoked.

    Daughter is a different matter.

Buy her a copy of this. She can smoke all the way through while she's reading it.

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Allen-Carr...TF8&qid=1461829137&sr=1-1&keywords=allen+carr

It's what stopped me from smoking. Without a shadow of a doubt the best £ 6.50 I have spent in my entire life.

Bribe her if you have to. Offer to take her away on holiday. Whatever it takes. Just get her to read it.
