my fear of taking a bikes wheels off and thus killing myself after when the wheel fall off while riding has ended. well half of it, took my front wheel off today, Now what I lack in confidence if Gain by trying to do stuff correctly. I wanted to replace the front mud guard with a cheap one I got from E-Bay. to keep mine looking mint etc... So not as simple with the ASB wires but managed to take the front wheel off, mudguard and give it all a good clean before putting it back and going for a short ride. well pleased,,, car's I can do bikes I lack confidence due to not really playing with them much. more of a rider than a mechanic with regards to bikes
Nowt to be scared of mate. It's all nuts, bolts n washers. Just make sure everything is tightened up...oh, and if you have any left over bits simply pop them in a box, then one day, if ya do enough home mechanics, you will be able to build a second bike! Simples.
I was quite wary of doing anything on the bike, i make sure I get the torque settings written down and if in doubt take pictures on the way through. Not bad on wheels but when you start getting lots of bits around your feet it can be un nerving. Well done Remal for having a go and conquering your demons.
well done mate! its a good feeling when you do something for the fierst time,i used to be like that with brakes
had a new tyre fitted to the front of mine yesterday, on returning home i undid and then torqued up all the bolts, just to be on the safe side you understand
Always a good idea... I had a local bike shop fit a new front tyre for me... they forgot to do up the pinch bolts at the bottom of the forks... only found out after I had ridden home
Well done Remal I was a bit like yourself, where working in cars never bothered me, but working on the bike I was always a bit nervous. Luck would have it though that I have a good mate who only stays a couple of doors up, who is a mechanic. He would guide me and show me what to do/ask me what I think I should do and then let me do the work. It was a god send having someone there, even if only to turn to, to make sure I was doing it right. To be honest I now love working on the bikes, to a point now where I don't know if I would trust anyone else working on them.
Got told by Honda dealer that you should replace the caliper bolts each time you remove them...anybody on here do that?
Nah, fook that. And remal, ya shouldn't leave ya calipers dangling......fnaar fnaar..... Tyewrap or tape them to the legs, or stick a bolt back in loosely.
Just add some thread lock to the bolts, thats all the new ones have, spoke to my local dealer, they re use the bolts all the time
I had them connected with a bungee strap on the right hand side. But on the pic they did dangle for a min
Nice one buddy Yesterday i did my Chain and Sprockets....easy enought to do, but the chain is the hardest IMO as riviting the link and that self doubt Jay
i noticed you dont have a radiator guard? Ide advise getting one, blade radiators are not cheap!! Just takes that one bastard stone to get thrown into there and your in a world or coolant! D
