I would have said that my Repsol would have needed orange wheels, but found a picture on the net of one with BST's and it looked awesome. There is a set on eBay but they are the earlier fitment fronts so would need modding to suit a 2008 onwards which I don't really fancy, so by December I should have enough pennies for a shiny new set! The only other option I've looked at are the OZ Piega, but I know every time I look at them I'll wish I'd have bought the BST's. hmmm, think I'll take a long hard look at them at the NEC!
There performance will always be worth the money but I personally think that carbon wheels on a repsol look bloody horrid
Yea was just having this convo with Jamie yesterday, I would just want to paint them orange which would kind of ruin them! They do a nice set of marchensini (however you spell it!) for you model which look like the gp wheels but they don't do them for my year
I would have said exactly the same until I seen ths picture: I think it looks really moody with the carbon rims and turns the whole scheme down a couple of notches. I did consider the six spoke wheels to replicate the GP bikes but heard that they are a pain to source, and by the time you get them painted I bet you are near the cost of the BST's.
I think it looks too plain myself but if we were all the same it would be a very boring world! There's loads of the wheels I mentioned on eBay but if your happy with the look of those on it then go for them mate, I would be tempted to at least a bit of orange rim tape but I love orange
That's my picture great wheels, I like them on the Repsol, but then I like Gold OZs of the Repsol too marchesini m7 are the other option as they also sell them in Orange, available in mag and alloy as shown in martins pic. I have a pair of BSTs mounted here till Thursday if you want to look at some.
I have to admit, they do look good. If you like the look then i'd go for it. Does anyone know how fragile these are when it comes to tire changing? I've heard of places that refuse to do it due to the value of the wheels.
You treat them like any other wheel, however I run a low clamp pressure to reduce load on the rims of all the wheels I do, I do know a case this year where the fitter slightly missed the clamps and crushed a rear wheel, it sold on eBay for 250 quid, guess it would make a nice clock! Accidents do happen and the tyre machine is not a forgiving system so if your full press the peddle or release it too soon you can easy damage a wheel, this is why they will say to you no we won't do them or you accept the risk! I look after my machine but still you have to take care and know what your doing! As for fragile check out the YouTube videos, also these wheels pass all three TUV tests with one wheel, unlike all the others where the wheel is changed for each test!
Yeah thats what I thought. When I said fragile, I did mean in relation to tyre changing. I know they are about as tough as anything else out there. It is just the thought of loosing £2k when changing tyres
Well I guess the answer should be, yes you should treat them like any other wheel when fitting tyres with a tyre machiene HOWEVER if the question was could the tyre machiene dammage the wheel then yes, 100% the tyre machene is capable of damaging the wheel big time if a mistake was to happen with the rims.. BST do offer a free inspection service however you have to pay shipping to and from South Africa also if a wheel is damaged they can rebuild them around the old hubs that can reduce the cost but how much I don't know.
If I could have only 1 modification on my bike ....................... it would be my BST's And my local tyre chappie hasn't marked them yet (2 sets of tyres)
Same, there are some horror stories on the net and some are fairly new! However the number of the wheels is up over the last couple of years, I have seen some in a right state too and IMO they do need some level of care! IF the wheels loose air then you need to investigate ASAP as they could be cracked, BST sell a road and a race wheel, also now in satin or gloss. I've jumped mine, wheelied them and generally forget they are carbon on a good ride, sometimes you think about catastrophic failure of the wheel and yeah, it could get you twitching...lol
Well i'm sure I could get someone to take on the job. There is just too much stuff I want to buy, thats the problem. That and I'd hate to spray em gold lol
I've seen them painted Orange tbh I though, TRAGIC and they looked like OEM wheels....lol IF you buy anything and you want to upgrade your brakes, suspension, performance and the general feel of the bike you can do all of this with just the wheels.
Should that not read "personally think that a repsol on carbon wheels looks bloody horrible" I am just saying........
