I am trying to replace the piston seals on my front brakes. The plain seals go in ok, but the scraper seals don't seem to fit right - they just seem too fat for the groove in the caliper. I've bought two pattern kits and some genuine Brembo seals and they all seem to be the same - the only thing I haven't tried yet are the Honda parts. Are these scraper seals supposed to be a bugger to fit, or should they just slide in like the plain seals do?

They may look to big to start with but they do go in if you have them the right way round? By that I mean there is two different sizes

IMG_0277.jpeg He’s right you know. Thanks for the heads up as I’m about to overhaul my callipers….

BikeHPS are looking into this for me. I’ll post the outcome.

Maybe let Bike HPS know that I got the Brembo 30 and 32mm kits from them, so it seems the standard kits are not suitable.

I did mention to Giles that there was a forum post that set me off on the trail. I’d give him a call yourself.

He’s a good guy so he’ll sort and have the correct info for next time.

Quick update, just spoken to Giles @ HPS. He’s ordering Honda seals as he can find nothing else to match.

As ever, Giles is helpful and sorts it. Proper gentleman.

If I'm reading the Fowlers parts site right then it will take 4 sets of each size, eight in total, which works out at £320 :( for rubber seals :(

Sadly you are reading it right. It is a joke.

If you call Doble and ask to speak to Saj in parts. Mention you know me (Alastair) and you’ll get 20% off list price.

Top man, that makes it at least a little less painful!

I am considering just buying some new HEL calipers instead of paying the ridiculous price that Honda want...

Problem is that will devalue the bike. You could buy new Ohlins calipers with 34mm pistons for £750 or so from Giles. But you’d need to change the master cylinder to suit.

I’ve ordered stainless pistons from Giles and will put Honda seals in. A haloing of rubber grease will protect the calipers from corrosion.

I had a good chat with Giles this afternoon (top marks for customer service to Bike HPS by the way). I'm going to run without the dust seals as mine gets to stay warm and dry when the weather's bad.

I’d pop the old dust seals in. That way you’re doubly covered
