    Evening all :)

I'm just insuring the bike and some of the price comparison websites don't seem to ask about any mods and are consequently offering good prices.

On some insurer's own websites the price goes screaming up once I mention the Yoshi exhaust pipe.

What do you lot do? Declare or not?

I declare every mod but it never went up materially until I mentioned the power commander.....it then went up from 350 to 450!

declare it . my mate works for a bike insurance assesors firm .
he has to send pictures to the insurance company, one bike had a k&n sticker on the bike, the insurer made him check to see if it had a filter fitted ,he had to let them know it had.
dont know if they voided it or tried to give a reduced payout.
use ebike you can put all your details in then keep using the back button to put on each mod one at a time to see what price difference they make.

just used ebike and the difference between all mods declared or not was £30 only downside is its more than double what ive been quoted elsewhere. will have to ring the last quote i had and add mods on for a requote.

My problem is that if I just declare the bike as standard the premium's £250 and if I declare the Yoshi slip-on can they want £650. That can't be right, surely?

Take insurance out with the bike as standard and then phone up after a month or so to add the exhaust

I did this and it worked a treat. Got the insurance, including declaring the exhaust and helmet and leathers cover for just a shade over £200. Cheers, Remal :)

I declared everthing on my last bike with MCE and that included Akrapovic slip ons, crash bungs, carbon fibre, secondry engine covers, radiator guard, tailtidy, tank pad, and venture shield, when they consulted with the insurance company they responded with "no extra premiums because they are are all cosmetic" ? work that one out. Never be loyal to any of them as they reel you in for the first couple of years and then bang! they sting you like a swarm of Wasps, also remember they are all in competition with each other and are desperate for any new business so shop around for the best deal with or without mods. but a cautionary note? if you don't declare when you take on your policy and you make a claim the insurance company have every right to void your policy.

Fellas do remember the Carole Nash etc are merely the broker and not the insurance company.......to be honest there are not that many bike insurers around as there was.....Carole Nash by the way are owned by Groupama, Swintons owned by RSA....

It's always best to declare all mods as you are basically committing fraud if you don't with all the ramifications that go with that......plus if you ever get a declinature on any insurance policy that will become a nightmare.....I speak as someone who has had the misfortune to work in insurance for 38 years......
