My MCE insurance is due to run out at the end of the month so like a good boy started looking at compare sites for the best deal. Put my details in and MCE came top with a deal cheaper than there renewal quote!...from that day on I got 2 phone calls a day from MCE for just over a week until I told them to remove my number from the call list. This worked after the 4th time of asking them. It got to the stage where I was answering the phone with:-

    Ring...Ring
Me - “MCE insurance, how can I help you”
Them – “er…..er….is this the right number?”
Me – “ Well that depends on who you called but this is MCE insurance”
Them – “I’m calling from MCE insurance”
    Me – “ Really?...oooh I know, that’s Steve isn’t it you bugger”
Them – “ No, this is MCE insurance”
Me – “ You cant be, this is MCE insurance”
Them – “ok sorry to bother you”

One minute later the phone rings again, this time I answer it in a childs voice:-

    Me – “Hello”
Them – “Hello, could I speak to Mr ***** please”
Me – “ No sorry, daddies in the betting shop and mummies in bed with that man again, shall I get her for you?”
    Them – “cough….no don’t worry, bye”

Its since been renewed and the calls have stopped……so far.

I'm with MCE. TPFT. Rang up after my 'off' to see if I had any roadside recovery. Yes, they told me, and without further ado I was listening to another phone ringing. Eventually got through to someone. It turned out to be the recovery company who then asked for my insurance details. I couldn't tell him cos I dont carry my cert. with me, and because I have the intelligence of a used tea bag, cant remember my 28 digit reference number. Turns out they only recover for mechanical breakdowns and not crashes. So thats bollox then. Day after, MCE ringing me for details of alarm, datatag etc to persue my claim. Er, what fcking claim? I binned it, tpft. Went on for 2 weeks, aswell as numerous leters. The last phone call I got I lost my rag, then was told it's not actually MCE phoning and writing, but customer services. Customer services for who??? Eh? WTF????

What I would say is read the small print. They currently offer helmet and leather cover, free RAC cover and courtesy bike hire. The helmet and leather cover is only £500 but on that you have to pay £100 excess! leaving £400 for replacement. My helmet costs more than that!. As Blags rightly pointed out the RAC cover is breakdown only and not crash recovery, so you have to pull the bike home once you’ve straightened the bent bits out (that’s you not the bike) Last but not least is the courtesy bike hire. This is for 5 days only and knowing my luck I’ll be working them. So to conclude, Big Ed needs to shove it right up his Arse because I’d rather staple my nuts to a scaffold board with a croquet hoop and let them be kicked repeatedly with polished brogues at a “I hate men lesbian convention” than have a spill and find out I still have a large bill to pay to make up the difference. That’s if they actually pay and don’t bomb out with one of their many caveats. I found this out once I paid for the MCE policy, so that’s been cancelled and I’ve found another which covers everything I need (inc mods) for £20 more. Pays to shop around.

I’m with the IAM on their Surety insurance, which I think are Adelaide Insurance. Might be worth giving them a call as I only get about £30 discount for being a member. They dont mind mods as long as they're not power enhancing.
