hi everybody!!! i am new on the forum so this is my first post and i have a huge problem... i am 33 years old, just bought my 1000rr 2008 blade ( she is beautiful .. ), but when i check insurance companies unfortunately prices come up very expensive.. i don't have ncb so probably that is the reason , coz my cheaper insurance come up like 1700 pounds for third party and theft only.. the other 2 insurance providers even more- 9500 pounds .. meaby you guys got cheaper options for me and better advise? please help.. seb p.s. i will put my pictures of my baby later ..
welcome seb 33 living in london with no NCB its not gonna be cheap,av you tried putting in a large voluntary excess, alarms usually worth 10% off limit it to 3000 miles a year say, im with MCE but ask 10 people youl get 10 different answers, mine was a grand 4 years ago but its £162 fully comp. good luck
I work for an Insurance company - obviously each company has different rules etc (we don't actually insure bikes) but you are a nightmare risk, so the premium is prob. quite fair. Look at it from their side - you have zero experience (proven) of riding a bike, you have a group 17(ish) 180mph bike, its in London - a theft capital hotspot. If I was the underwriter for your risk, I'd simply not want you as a customer (sorry, that sounds really harsh) - the chance of making any profit and keeping my manager / shareholders happy is limited. Hope that helps 'explains' the quotes you are getting - sorry I cannot help further
thx for the quick respond.. can you tell me a bit more about that voluntary excess? and how is it working on it- what is that voluntary?
Try the bike insurer first as they give very good prices. insurance is stupid, i struggled to find quotes below £600 but when i changed my occupation from "delivery driver" to "delivery roundsman" i got quotes for £350. Its stupid things like that, just change little details here and there and it might work
Good idea from Fez.. but be warned - if you put things down that are incorrect, and you then need to claim its grounds to reject the claim due to non-disclosure of material facts. Fez could easily say 'I felt roundsman was a more accurate description of my current employment' as its subjective, but dates, facts, etc. are harder to change.
its what you pay in the event of a claim, theres compulsary excess what you pay regardless and voluntary basically its what your prepared to pay on top of the compulsary excess, the higher your voluntary excess in theory should lower your quote, say your bikes worth £7000 an gets stolen compulsary excess say £400 and voluntary excess of £600 you will recieve £6000 cant really explain it theres usually a box on the form stating voluntary excess....
Hi Seba1x1 and welcome. Give Bike Devil (a subsidiary of MCE) a try. As a new rider myself (just 1 year NCD) I found them to be the cheapest by far although they were extremely difficult to deal with (see one of my earlier threads) Good luck mate.
problem is, then full comprehensive insurance will cost me 3000 pounds.. i just check again with compare the market insurance and it is only 3 providers can insure me: ebike insurance, mce, and cia- where with the last one i have to pay 9949 pounds for third party fire and theft only.. with ebike 1782 pounds for fire and theft with no excess and no compulsory - i cant put them to lover insurance coz it is only fire and theft.... i cant add up voluntary and compulsory excess only for full comprehensive thx for all replays
you may have to go on there sites individually as well go on MCE own site rather than just doing the compare sites.Bike Insurance - Motorcycle, Motorbike, Moped & Quad Cover Quotes as fez says try THE BIKE INSURER Cheapest Quote | The Bike Insurer AS THEY PAY COMISSION to the comparison sites.
Doesn't sound good for you as far as cheaper insurance goes, I'm 31 and pay under £400 for my rr04 but I've got 4 yrs no claims from previous bikes.
Slightly off subject but just wanted your expert opinion as you work in the industry. Is your bike insured against theft if SORN, I heard recently this might not be the case. Thanks for any info you can offer.
I haven't heard this myself but the way I would see it is you would still be insured for theft but not for riding on the road, insurance company's always used to say they you weren't insured to drive if you weren't taxed so I don't think anything has actually changed. One thing you may have got mixed up with is they have recently been pushing that you now have to declare your vehicle SORN if you are not taxed and NOW if you are not insured also
Not mixed up mate, there was a report some there that a guy who sorn his bike was told he wasn't insured for theft and needed to buy laid up theft insurance instead.
I don't think that would hold up in a court to be honest, prob just a dodgy insurer trying to get out of a claim. My brothers bike was In a garage block one day and the whole block was set on fire, his insurer said he was not covered as he never stated it was a block just that it was garaged! All they ask you is is it garaged? Is it the same postcode as your home address? If not what is the postcode? It took about 9 months but he got a payout plus compo in the end They do try it
I feel for you mate, I can see how it would be easy to buy from the heart and then get the shock of those insurance quote. Hope you get sorted somehow. Keep your nose clean and ride safe, at least it should come down every year.
