Some of you will remember me banging on about getting my 20th Anniversary stolen last summer.
Well the time has come to renew insurance. My last premium was £375.00 fully comp. I had to pay another £80.00 to add the new bike to the policy. Now that policy is up for renewal I am being quoted between £2,500.00 - £3,500.00 for fully comp. is this daylight robbery or what? I do not understand why I have essentially had 6 months insurance for £80.00 and now have stump up these ludicrous sums. I have had to insure the new bike TPFT this time as I can't justify (afford) the cost of fully comp. I dare not say how much TPFT has cost in case my girlfriend sees this!
Not only have the thieving gits of Sarf London stolen my pride and joy they have left me with a legacy of high premiums. C###s

That is tough - I know this is a terrible suggestion to make, but would it make sense to trade the Blade for a lower insurance group bike till you get some no claims built up, maybe take a different approach (ie KTM supermoto) for your enjoyment. I wonder how much you will enjoy riding an almost new bike that is TPF&T

Sorry I cannot help - thieves need a digit cut off for each wheel they steal or similar - make it harder for them to re-offend then

I had been thinking along those lines but decided to bite the bullet. My idea of something less powerful was a baby Panigale! Seriously though I have always had a soft spot for a Street Triple.... too late now!

With a very large theft payout and a group 17 bike a new policy will be a challenge - but hope to be proved wrong

You get a 14 day cool off period to cancel your insurance, you probably wouldn't loose anything regarding your blades insurance if you decide to change your bike

I take you didn't have no claims protected, I had an accident last year, £4000 it cost to fix my blade which I soon sold , cost me an extra £40 to insure the sp2 & have only been quoted £250 for 15 months, an increase of £80 with MCE.

Hate to think I would have to let the new bike go. I will have to grin and bear the cost this time. Alblade is right, I did do number of searches and they were all in the same ball park. If you exaggerate the truth you make great savings but that won't help in the long run.

Sympathise mate, had my RR6 nicked by Eastern European scum in 2012, my broker stated my insurer wanted £1100 up from £190 and that was with full protected NCB, ended up paying £350 with same insurer through different broker, next year it went down to £225.

What does piss me off is that my car insurance went up 30%, and my wifes 15% as I am a named driver, all because of a nicked bike...thieving insurance c*nts should be put on a ferry with the low life scum that nicks them then torched, thats the only way they will learn.

Insurance is a cruel business. I thought the idea is to spread the risk around and if someone is unfortunate, as apposed to careless or stupid. then they are compensated. This seems not to be the case. You have a claim and you pay back the value of the claim in instalments, with increased premiums. It stinks.
    Good Luck,
    ......... Mike.

Sad to think isn't it, that you as the owner of the bike should be penalised because some scummy f@@ker decided to steal your pride and joy. I would as everybody has said look at all the comparison sites. I did loads of quotes looking for insurance and the difference between quotes was immence. Good luck with the new bike and the insurance quotes.

I understand that Insurance Companies have to make money but I really hate it when they do things like that. Yes you may be a higher risk than last year, but 1 theft claim doesn't justify that much of an increase.

The premium increases so much because the base factors /claims multipliers will push the premium up, then there is maybe no NCD to bring the figure down

I know a about this as I've built pricing model spreadsheets for a motor insurer in the past - while every company will have different rate / risk factors to apply the nuts and bolts of it are roughly the same. I've also provided acturial data on claims costs broken down by vehicle group / age of driver / experience etc.

Reducing the group and value of bike would have the biggest impact but the owner has understandably said 'I'm not gonna let the fcukers beat me'
