Just got a shock from my insurance company for renewal of insurance which is due at the weekend. My old Aprilia Tuono Factory (1000cc) 2008 i had insured for £219, 2007 blade has come in at wait for it £597

Excuse i got was the blade was a sportsbike, well WTF is a Tuono Factory a Scooter!

Gonna have a look around for some quotes, guess the blade is quite heavily modded (exhaust system, wheels etc) but that quote is a joke. Will phone up a couple of Insurance companies that say they specialise in modified bikes see what they say. If its silly money the blade will get returned to stock, not paying through the nose for some extra noise and a bit more power!

Anyone reccomend good insurance companies to try, Carole Nash no longer want my business obviously!

    Hi Lock
Go to Bennetts - just bought a new 2011 Blade £310 fully comp.
Everyone else were quoting me between £440 to £540, which I thought was taking the piss!!

When I bought my Ducati 1098R new in 2008 for £25,000 the insurance on that was only £360.

When I bought my £40k Desmosedici in 2009 I was being quoted £1200 but managed to reduce it to around £750.

Prior to selling my R1 in 2009, I used to pay £180 fully comp for the R1 which I thought was a steal, I therefore assumed the Blade would be the roughly the same so got a bit of a shock when I got quoted over £400!!

My Insurance was due on the 27th of this month! I was with Bennets. Last year I was paying £160 Fully Comp! 42, Full No Claims etc. This year they sent the renewal out at £237. I thought, why? Ok, Vat has gone up slightly! But, Interest rates are still crazily low, I hadnt cost them a penny all year, and they want nearly £100 more this year!
So The Web it was, and after an evening of trailing through the comparison sites. The one I got the Insurance from was The BikeInsurer.
I was quoted, wait for it! £111.000. Needless to say, I bought it! Same excess as now, protected no claims! BARGAIN!
And as my second car is due 31st(tomorrow) I didnt stop there! 3.2V6 Petrol Vaux Signum! Qouted at renewal by Swinton at A staggering £358, Down to £159 via Go Compare!
And, NO, I didnt stop there! Mortgage is being re financed, down £125, BT down from £48 to £24 with Unlimited BB etc I Am on a mission. :)
Me and the Mrs, think that we can save at least £600 per month by chopping and changing things including Utility suppliers etc.
Take a day or two, and shop till your fingers drop!
I simply can't believe how much money I have saved!
    Good Luck

Paying £560. 4Years NCB, 4 years riding 33Yo , New blade. FC but adding protected added another £100 on top of the premium of £460. with Bike Insurance (Motorbike & Motorcycle Insurance).

I was paying £600 when I got my new Speed triple in 2008. Which went down to £200 after 3 years. the main thing for the high price I was told was a new bike and Going to sports bike from a naked was a big step with insurance company's

I got my insurance renewal from Carol Nash and It was £170 more than last year, I'm 37, full no claims etc. So I called them up and explained that I am another year older, the bike was another year older, I never made a claim. They said they would speak to their underwriters and get back to me. The next day they did and explained that as a "special" case they would only charge me £15 more than last year! Never, ever accept the original quote. It pays to make a few calls :)

Best quote i've got so far is £300 with £500 excess. That includes all my mods (which is a bit lengthy and includes akra full system, power commander and dymag wheels) Waiting on one place to call me back. Carole Nash just didn't seem interested, but it is luck of the draw as last year with carole nash, got chatting to a guy who went away and came back with about £150 knocked off.

My 06 has a list of mods the length of your arm and the bits that are on the bike are worth more than the bike itself. Ohlins forks and shock, PVM wheels, full system, PC3, R+G everything, Gilles pegs and adjusters with lifters and the rest and I got it insured (2 weeks ago) for about £250. The mods added no value to the premium as they only insure the bike as a standard one but accept that I have 'upgraded' the standard parts.

I'm with Express Insurance. I've been with them the last 4 or 5 years. Never had to claim so I'm happy enough with them.

Thanks for all the responses / advice, but still £305 cheapest with Bikesure so they have the business this year. Quotes ranged from £305 - £597.

Interesting thing was that on one site i got a quote of £560. I went back and out of interest said i bought the bike in jan 2010 not 2011 and the premium went down to about £420! Lets hope when i've had the blade a year i can prove i can cope with it!

I'm shocked as MCE quoted me £480ish with 16 years no claims bonus, no accidents or convictions!!!!

Best quote was Bennets for around £300.

2 years ago was paying £180 fully comp on my R1, therefore was expection Blade to be similar cost!!!

I was aswell. i was getting quotes for £500.00 + everywhere else so asoon as i had MCE's quote for 216 i gave them a call and payed in full before they changed their mind.

I told the girl i spoke to that it is a very good quote and she said the area i live in has a very low crime rate which helped the quote.

Also i saved 60 bucks by taking pillion cover off

All the above posts just go to prove that shopping around every year is by far the best bet. I am late forties, with 5 years NCB (next year) when i get the 2010 Blade i will be looking around like a demon for a good deal. I do not expect to be paying a fortune give some of the quotes above.
