Bike has been stood for a week, bit slow to turn over this morning but fired up. New battery was fitted last year (Varta) and replaced stator 3 months ago. After it fired up I checked the battery/charging voltage and it was about 12v but after a run of 15 miles or so it was charging at around 14v. Is this normal? I thought it would immediately have put 14v into the battery after starting. I tested the voltage across the battery terminals with a volt meter. I've just got back from a 70 mile ride and everything seems fine.

    It's an 04RR

Should be running at approx 13.5 to 14 v when running so alternator etc seems ok, do you have an alarm on the bike, could of pulled the battery down a bit if not run for a week, do you have an optimate or similar to keep topped up when not in use?

Sometimes the alternator needs a rev spurt to kick it up to it's optimum output. This happens alot on new cars.could be why it said 12v but ok when you are out on it.

Hold the revs at 5K and put the high beam on then see what the voltage is.

I'm thinking that maybe when the bike fired up the battery voltage dropped considerably due to not having much charge in it hence only showing 12v across the terminals? When it had charged up sufficiently it then showed the correct charging voltage of approx 14v. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

After my 70mile ride everything seemed fine and battery had plenty of charge. I guess if the stator was fubard again then it would have run out of all electrical power mid ride- that's what happened when it burnt out last time.

No alarm on the bike just the Honda HISS. I think I have got a trickle charger in the garage somewhere time to get it out me thinks as I can't see me riding it much more this winter- I froze my ass off today lol

A week ! That doesn’t sound good. I turned the engine over on my 2011 today and it wazzed over like normal (with engine kill on as I didn’t want it to start, just turn the motor over) and its been laid up and not touched since early September. I still removed the battery and brought it in the house to trickle charge over the winter. I don’t have an alarm but do have Hiss.

hi,if you have an alarm instaled you should check for any energy leacks. ,.
Also couse of your model had always problem with the stator you might be ouf of those so your bike dosenot charge.
that it dint let you in the mid of the ride dosent meant your stator is ok it might just half warking and not giving the right voltage

as for the slow start its just the cbrs styles(all my 08s+ did that) its not like a gixxer that always fires up in the 1st toutch

if in any case you gona change battery try this one out
    8 cell A123 motorcycle start battery 13.2v4.6ah 12v new | eBay

i have this battery for like 2 years almost now never let me down and i always caring it from bike to bike(i use to change a lot of bikes :p )
the battery almost never charge out and it last longer andd ofc its lighter (around 600g) and it can last many charge circles

Have been thinking about one of these for a while and just looked at your battery link and it reccommends for use on 50 -250cc engines...Do use this on the Blade and what other bikes ??
