Is this year going to be the year of green flies?

    We have been swampped by them since 2 weeks ago at the start of the dry & sunny weather.
    I normally seem them later on but eahc time I've been out on bikes (or driving too) I just get covered with the flies even though I stick to reasonable speed.

    Must say they are easier to clean off though.

    My pear tree is covered in them already. Just gave it a spray with bug spray, it's a bit futile because I think the ants actually farm them.

    Yes I think the ants feed on the secretion from the green flies. Noticed that a couple of years back so I spray them all, kill 2 birds with one stone!

    Now however with the fields blossoming, the heavy brigade is out, lot's of pinging on my helmet during my ride.
