Hi guys, just joined the forums as I’m considering another ‘Blade.

Had a break from bikes for just over a year after selling my 954. Now decided I’d like another bike, and as many other makes and models as I look at, I can’t get past the FireBlade, I loved everything about the 954, so a natural progression would be an RR4/5/6 I guess. The only other bike that I genuinely like the look of and am considering is a GSXR750, but I keep coming back to the CBR!

I’ll be doing some research on here and in other places on the blades, might pop up with some questions.

    Cheeky pick of my 954!

    Cheers guys.

Oh, any word on when the site will be compatible with Tapatalk again as it’s a useful too to check all my forums in one place!

    Hi, and welcome.

I have on RR4 and am very pleased with it. However, if I had my chance again, I would opt for the RR6 or 7 as MANY refinements were made over the 4 and 5. Nothing wrong with the former, of course, just a situation of wanting the 'updated' version of essentially the same bike.

Nice pic of the 954 by the way!

Oh, and any relation to Meatloaf?:) And you're female, I guess?

Hello and welcome , RR6 /7 are a bit of a step up over the RR4/5 , higher red line ,lighter , two teeth up on rear ,higher comp ratio , ect. ,and in my opinion are a future classic :) plus the HRC ones are blessed with power and speeed :D

Thanks for the info Nigel. The pic made me laugh, I am male, that must be my long lost sister!

    Am I right I’m thinking that an RR4 = 2004, RR5 = 2005 and so on??

Yep, exactly. BUT, the rules change at the year 2000 when letters replace numerals. So, 2000 = RRA, 2001 = RRB, etc.

BUT (again) the rules are made more complex because some letters that LOOK like numerals (i.e. I 1 and O 0) are not used. At 2018, Honda is using RRJ.

Why is RR4 the year 2004 and not RRD - given the above? (serious qu. BTW)

First, and most importantly, I used the wrong changeover date in my previous post. It was 2010 and NOT 2000 when the formula changed. My 2011 is an RRB.

Back to the answerI think there might be Japanese logic in the formula somewhere.

We all know the 'original' Blades used alphabetical designators, i.e: 1992 was RRN; 1993 was RRP. (Note that 'O' was omitted)
The year 2000 saw the RRY which was followed in 2001 by RR1. I can only speculate that the Japanese powers saw that aligning the model number with the year date would simplify things.

As it now stands, and is obviously the basis of your question. it's all over the shop:rolleyes:. However, the 10-year space created by using numbers does mean that we do not now have two 'RRN' models which could so easily have been the case.

Thanks Nigel, I think I understand that, I’ll be looking at the undertail exhaust bikes so RR4/5/6 I believe??

Yep, there's a few around - but many seem to have copped a hard time.

Looking for a good one is like re-entering the dating scene - pretty hard to avoid damaged goods!!:D

Best of all though, EVENTUALLY, the right one comes along. would you consider 929 as well, or is there a particular pedigree with the 954?

Just really like the look of them Nigel, genuinely think they are one of the best looking bikes of it's time. I was looking at them before I bought my current blade but I didn't think it was enough of an upgrade over my Aprilia RSVr I had at the time!

929's were nice too but not quite as nice looking for me! And after all it is all about looks Nigel!!:D
