Guys, just looking for some advice on the Kriega luggage systems.. Going away next month on the annual Europe tour and looking at investing in some Kriega for the Blade. Last year I had Sw Motech panniers with a 48 litre capacity (different bike), and filled them to the brim.. This year I plan to travel a bit lighter. My tour is for 5 nights/6 days. At the moment I'm looking at possibly a US30 and maybe US10 on top if that can happen..? Any advice appreciated, and any pics of Kriega on a Blade would be great.
US10 on top of a 30 is no problem. I have a US30 and 2 x US10's You can run it as a 'US40' with a 10 on top or a 'US50' with the 10's either side. You could make it a 'US60' and have 10 on top along with the 2 x 10's either side! ...........or a 'US70' with a 20 on top of a 30 with 2 x 10's either side! .....................or you could........................ bored now!
Cheers Si. I'm thinking the US30 may be a bit bulky in one go, so maybe the US20 + US10.. Is that what you've got on your bike pictured in the other thread?
Only for those with big Arses Shing! Some pix of a US30 with a 10 on top of my Bike on this thread in the Touring section mate http://1000rr.co.uk/touring/9835-4.htm
Few more Pix for ya Shing in full US50 mode plus a Givi XS370 Tank bag. As you can see there is plenty of Ass room.
It can do mate, just like any luggage. It'll rub over time.... Personally cut and stick some clear Oxford / venture shield stuff you can buy on the roll over it. Don't stick really really sticky gaffer tape on your arse end which has an altumera paint job (ok only an r1 I hear some say) spend 9 days in +30 temps to really melt it on, leave it a week after getting back, then rip off the gaffer tape impatiently taking off a huge chunk of lacquer with it
I did my last trip with a 30 and a 10 strapped on. Mesh protector sheet under it to stop rubbing, never had an issue with the weight.
Be careful that the mesh is secure and doesn't move... Seen a dude trash his rear end with the mesh rubbing. Was a Suzuki though
I also learnt to do fantastic roundhouse kicks, very useful for getting your leg over...........the luggage!
I have a US-20 and US-10 and SW-Motech Daypack for the tank as I pack light, even for long trips. Only just bought the US-20 mind as I am off to France end of August. I recommend you buy a roll of the carpet gripper mesh from a DIY store. Its exactly the same stuff as Oxford and others sell for bikers but you get loads more for the same money. I cut a piece to protect the bag and wings near seat (not much required). It doesn't look great but saves any rubbing of paint. I use the older US-10 for taking chain to work so the straps stay on bike and drop down on the sides. If you have newer Kreiga gear then the wings protection wont be required. However if you fully load up the bags you may want to protect a little bit to the rear of seat above the rear light or it may get scuff marks. Anyway do a test pack and load before you go and see if you need it.
Forget strapping Kreiga gear direct to the Bike! A Renntec rack is the way forward! Goes on and off in 10 mins once the initial hidden brackets are fitted!
