why is it I sometimes see L plates on bigger bikes?
My son (21) is hoping to take his mod 1 test soon but cannot get any practice in although he has purchased a 500cc bike for when he passes.

People doing direct access will be riding bigger bikes on L plates but should still be accompanied by an instructor! If not they're probably breaking the law

Mainly because as far as my mother knows, it's a moped and I wouldn't dream of doing anything as suicidal as taking a bike test...

I worked as a DAS instructor for a while and often moved DAS bikes between our training centres, or had to go and fuel them. Loads of peeps used to stop me in a petrol station telling me that I could only ride a 125 on L plates and that I'd be in trouble if I got caught.
I always thanked them for their input :)
Then I told them what I was doing and thanked them for their concern. In fairness, most people who have knowledge will try to help keep you out of trouble.
